“Whether you are struggling on your first or third year into the nursing program, don’t quit yet!” – say future nurses on Palm Desert campus.
Students from the CSUSB PDC Nursing Program share their own tips and tricks to keep the motivation going even during the most difficult times.
The nursing program in CSUSB PDC takes a few years to complete depending on the student and their needs.
The amount of time for the upcoming nurses to finish their studies often causes them stress, but the following tips are designed to make the process smoother.
Find the Perfect Balance
Amor Cara, a fourth-year nursing student, states, “find the perfect balance. You can’t just be studying the whole time.”
For a student who is constantly putting their studies first instead of anything else in their personal life can lead to isolation and stress. Balancing schoolwork with other fun activities can help take the mind off the stress. It is the pause that helps take relief and a breather. Taking a break from the hours of studying can cool the mind, proven by experience by many students themselves.
When students are unable to understand the material, the best way is to ask someone for help. Being an introverted and quiet student, asking for help isn’t always an option and that can always affect grades.
“Don’t hesitate to ask questions when you’re confused. Don’t be scared of your professors, they’re very helpful,” said Rosemary Agresor, a third-year nursing student.
Classmates are also a very good source for help.
Form Study Groups
Working alone is probably the easiest solution for some people, but working in groups can actually help things get done faster. Forming a study group can create new ideas, answer difficult questions, and even help build relationships with other classmates.
Rhealyn Perez, a fourth-year nursing student, says she enjoys forming study groups. Perez creates her very own flashcards and study guides to be able to share with classmates so they can receive the help they need as well.
Attending events that will build relationships and creating networking opportunities is what the CSUSB PDC nursing student enjoy doing. The CSUSB PDC Nursing Instagram page is filled with many activities the upcoming nurses do to stay connected with their community.
Lastly, with most career paths, there is a step where communication is the key to getting a certain task complete or succeeding. This means interacting with others and getting involved in the community. In order to feel comfortable with the career path that is chosen, it is best to step into the water and dive in.
With these tips and tricks, not only does this only apply for nursing students, but for students overall. It does not matter what major you are taking, these study habits and tips are for those who need it. These will help keep students on their feet and continue to strive to do better.
