The Coyote volleyball regular season ended on Nov. 10 as the team beat the Humboldt State Jacks in three sets.
The Coyotes took set one (25-11), taking an early lead of 8-4. Humboldt got back into the game, their comeback did not last long.
When the score showed 16-11, they went on a nine-point streak to take the set. They scored their final two game-winning points on back-to-back kills by Sascha Dominique.
The Coyotes scored three straight to start set 2 (25-18), but the win required a bit more of a fight than the first set had.
They led 7-6 before breaking away from the Jacks, scoring eight points in a row. The Jacks slowly but surely got back in the game, closing the gap to 20-16.
The Coyotes scored two before the Jacks scored again, starting a brief back and forth battle between the teams.
Ultimately, CSUSB would come out on top over Humboldt as a kill from Jayann DeHoog to Amanda Reifer earned the winning point.
Set three ended with the same score as set one (25-11), but it started off a bit differently.
The Coyotes started off by scoring four in a row before allowing Humboldt to score. Once Humboldt scored their first, CSUSB picked up right where they left off, scoring five more in a row.
The Jacks were not going to go down without a fight as they went on to score six in a row before the Coyotes would score again. With a 10-7 score, the Jacks scored four to tie it up at 10.
The Coyotes tore away and would not look back, scoring nine in a row. The Jacks scored once more, but would not score again.
CSUSB scored six unanswered points to win set three and take their final match of the regular season. A kill by Alexis Cardoza scored point number 25.
They won five straight matches at home before ending the season with the road win. They also won the road game before their five-game home stretch, which gives them a seven-game win streak.
They look to extend the win streak in the CCAA playoffs.
Last season, the playoffs took place on campus at the Coussoulis Arena. The Coyotes walked away as the CCAA champions after defeating the Chico Wildcats in a five-set match.
The title was the twelfth in Coyote volleyball history.
The CCAA playoffs begin Nov. 16 at San Francisco State. The Coyotes are the No. 1 seed in the south, so they will play the No. 4 seed in the north, Cal State Monterey Bay at 7:30 p.m.
