Volleyball bounces back at home

The no.19 ranked Coyotes strung together a home winning streak on Oct. 14 against the UC San Diego Tritons and Oct. 15 against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars.

The game against the Tritons was one of the biggest highlights of the season thus far.

The Coyotes fought back from a 2-0 deficit and won in a superb way to cap off the night.   

Set totals capped off at 25-22, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24 and 16-14. The three consecutive set victories had the crowd on their feet in the Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes led the way with a stellar number of kills from OH Lauren Nicholson (23) and middle blocker’s Malika O’Brien (16) and Hailey Jackson (12).  

Setter Jayann DeHoog led the team with 51 assists and the team had multiple blocks coming from OH Moira Murphy (4), Jackson (7) and Kalli Scott (4).

The Tritons record dropped to 9-8 overall and 6-3 in CCAA conference play, while the Coyotes moved up to 11-4 overall and 5-2 against CCAA opponents. 

The Coyotes then faced the CSUSM Cougars in a landslide victory that ended in a quick 3-0 sweep.

The Cougars were dominated from start to finish.

The set scores were 25-16, 25-9 and 25-16.

The Coyotes lead the stat sheet in kills with 40 and in points with 51 over the opposing teams 27 kills and 32 points.

The Coyotes were led by Nicholson with 20 kills and Jackson with 12.

Libero Abbey Vollkommer led the team with 9 digs.

The Coyotes improved their record to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA.
