OPINION: Defunding Planned Parenthood does not defund abortion

February 27, 2017 by Brittanie Gutierrez 5 Comments

By Lost Girl Planned Parenthood defunding threats from the Republican Party are growing and people are not happy. Threats to defund Planned Parenthood (PP) have grown more serious, now that the party controls both the Senate and House. During a CNN Town Hall meeting in January, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan made comments regarding his stance on PP. “We don’t want to commit taxpayer funding for abortion, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider,” said Ryan. Now let’s get factual. PP does receive federal funding. The $500 million collected a year, comes mostly from Medicaid and Title X, but by law, federal funding cannot contribute to abortions. “The … [Read more...] about OPINION: Defunding Planned Parenthood does not defund abortion

January 26, 2017 by Brittanie Gutierrez 222 Comments

By Brittanie Gutierrez |Staff Writer| Activists and protesters gathered in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles to take part in the historic Women's March on Jan. 21. Los Angeles was just one of many cities that held the march, which originated in Washington D.C. The march started from Pershing Square and would have lead up to City Hall but due to the amount of protesters, the march split up and took over many blocks in the City of Angels. According to the Women's March LA Twitter page, an estimated 750,000 people attended. Women's reproductive rights, immigration, LGBTQ support and human rights were some of the motives behind thousands of people walking. Obama fails to address all issues

January 31, 2015 by Archived posts 7 Comments

By Essence Dennis |Staff Writer| President Barack Obama failed to address the disgusting actions that have occurred within certain police forces during his State of the Union speech. He also rarely discussed women’s rights, and the deplorable acts happening in Nigeria caused by Boko Haram. Obama’s speech on Tuesday Jan. 20 did, however, discuss his plans on human genome advancement, keeping gatekeepers away from our internet (net neutrality), and climate change. “I would have like to have heard him speak more on how he is going to better the environment besides hounding Native American coal miners in Virginia about their coal mining when they don’t have a choice, due to the … [Read more...] about Obama fails to address all issues

Obama enforces legal policy to close gender wage gap

April 18, 2014 by Archived posts 916 Comments

By Koby Heramil |Editor-in-chief| It’s ridiculous that working females are still being paid less than their male counterparts. President Barack Obama along with Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers motioned for Congress to discuss issues that matter to women. The president’s agenda seeks to close the gender wage gap. I agree with President Obama when he stated in his weekly address, “That’s wrong. In 2014, it’s an embarrassment. Women deserve equal pay for equal work.” One way Obama is ensuring that women are paid fairly is through an executive order that prohibits employers from punishing their employees from discussing wages in public. Employees already have … [Read more...] about Obama enforces legal policy to close gender wage gap
