By Lindsey Allen |Staff Writer| The CSUSB women’s cross country team is working hard and continuing to succeed on their journey to the NCAA West Regional in Hawaii. During the CCAA Championships on Oct. 20 in La Jolla, the team finished 8th in the 11-team race with 201 points. Freshman Patricia Cortez was a particular stand-out, finishing 23rd and earning the spot of CSUSB’s top runner for the conference. She covered the 6,000 meter course in 23 minutes, 1.3 seconds. “I was excited to see my effort paid off,” Cortez said. Cross country sprints into playoffs
By Devan Lee |Staff Writer| The ladies of CSUSB women’s cross country continue to train hard in hopes for a successful finish to their 2012 season. It is playoff time in the CCAA conference and the Lady Yotes landed top ten in the CCAA rankings, earning them in a spot in the championship race in La Jolla, California. “We definitely have a lot of strong points going into the playoffs this year,” said junior runner Jackeline Felix. CSUSB adopts bomb-sniffing K-9 unit
By Krystina Pedersen |Staff Writer| CSUSB is bringing campus safety to a whole new level by adding a K-9 to the university’s police department. Chevy, a 2-year-old 80-pound German shepherd, was brought to CSUSB from Little Rock, Arkansas through grants, private donations and fundraisers held by the women’s cross country team. Chevy is not your stereotypical attack dog that is trained to bite on command; he is in the process of being trained to detect explosives and ammunition. “Campuses are a target for terrorist threats; by having Chevy who specializes in detecting explosives and ammunition, we increase campus safety,” said officer Helen Skaggss.
