El Niño conservation may help drought

By Joel Cruz |Staff Writer| El Niño is currently a welcoming sight for water conservation efforts,  despite the potential for flooding and mudslides as California enters what may be its fifth year of the worst drought in state history. This year's current El Niño system has tied with a system from 1997 as the strongest on record, with wetter conditions for California from January to March, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Water companies’ cash runs dry: public pays the bill

Water usage declines statewide

By Francisco Casillas |Staff Writer| Californians have finally cut back on water consumption, according to a new statistics report released by government officials Tuesday. According to the report released by the State Water Resources Control Board, overall state water usage shows a significant decline, cutting usage by 11.5 percent in August. This is equal to 27 billion gallons of savings, up from 11 billion saved in July. However, areas in the South Coast region have had a smaller decline, with only a 7.8 percent decrease last month. Forum generates water saving ideas
