It was evident that the 'Yotes were trying to carry the momentum of their three-game winning streak into the weekend. "We lost to them last year 1-0, so we really wanted to get them back," said midfielder Gabby Evaristo. Not too much ground was being gained because of a hard fought battle throughout most of the first half. By Willis Torres |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball team won three games out of two back-to-back double headers against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors this past weekend in the four game series. Things kicked off on Feb. 26 where the Coyotes earned their first loss against the Warriors with a final score of 4-3 Warriors. Outfielder Jessica Angulo drove in the Coyotes' first run in the third inning, followed by catcher/outfielder Ashley Leffingwell and pitcher Cassandra Williams, who each earned a RBI in the sixth inning. Williams, who pitched for five innings, recorded six strikeouts on the mound and allowed three earned runs. By Jacques Lee |Staff Writer| Coyote men's basketball team fought long and hard to get a solid win in Thursday night's game against Cal State Monterey Bay. The game had a slow start but the Coyotes were able to keep the intensity up.They went into the second half looking for victory. The Coyotes shot at 36 percent from the field during the first half but that percentage increased to 43 percent in the second half. This ledt to 40 percent shooting average. The Coyotes had a close win with a score of 69-66. The Coyotes were led by junior Guard Jacob Thomas. Thomas led the team by scoring 19 points, three steals and one assist. A&E Editor| Women’s volleyball ended their regular season on a high note after two consecutive wins against Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles and Cal State Dominguez Hills Bulls. On Nov. 13 Coyotes faced the Golden Eagles in what would turn out to be an intense match for their 3-1 win. The home game had Coyotes working extra hard after trailing behind the first set with a set score of 23-25. By Justin Sandoval |Staff Writer| Ole ole, Coyotes men's soccer triumphs over the Sonoma State Seawolves and Humboldt State Lumberjacks in a road sweep, snapping a four game losing streak. The Coyote victory over the Seawolves was only the second win in California Conference Athletic Association (CCAA) history versus the Seawolves. Seawolve's Dylan Stafford attempted to take the early lead and got the first shot of the game against the Coyotes, but goalkeeper Roberto Gonzalez made the save. Men’s soccer gains momentum after historic win
By Devan Lee |Staff Writer| The CSUSB men’s soccer team came out victorious in a historic win against Sonoma State on Sunday, Oct. 7. Their victory marks the first time in school history the Coyote men’s soccer team has defeated the Sonoma State Seawolves in the last 18 games they have faced each other. The Seawolves went into the game with a winning record of six wins, three losses, and one tie against the Yotes at SSU’s home field Rohnert Park. The first goal of the game was scored by Coyote junior forward Demetri Burgos. With 18:30 on the clock, Burgos received an assist from freshman forward Corey Christ to score his second goal of the season. Courageously battling back after being down two games in a four-game series, the Coyotes demonstrated their consistent mental resilience. Coyotes’ baseball takes three of four from San Francisco State
By Ray Beasley |Staff Writer| Coyote baseball came home with a 3–1 series victory in their April 27–29 weekend series against the tough San Francisco State Gators. They took a narrow 3–2 victory in the final game of the series, giving them the final win to close out the grueling weekend. While every series victory is won by team efforts, the Coyotes would not have been as successful without their sensational left-handed starting pitcher Cory Caruso. Caruso grinded through a 127 pitch effort, striking out 11 Gators, and giving up only one earned run in the 3–2 victory in the series finale.
