By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The Coyote baseball team wrapped their season with an 11-3 win against the Tritons of UC San Diego. This season was a bit of a damper compared to last year which featured a trip to the CCAA playoffs. During the offseason, Coyotes ace pitcher, Tyler Wells was drafted by the Minnesota Twins, causing a loss of depth in the pitching rotation. Nine players graduated, putting a big hole in the team's roster. This required a major rebuild for head coach Dave Martinez. For Tyler Wells and Will Ouellette, former Coyote baseball players, this signals a wrap of their first seasons in professional baseball. Wells and Ouellette began 2016 as members of the CSUSB baseball team and finished by playing in the minor leagues for two MLB teams. "I miss playing with all of my good friends," said Wells. Wells was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and was assigned to the Elizabethton Twins, the rookie affiliate based out of Elizabethton, Tenn. Right-handed ace Tyler Wells received the news that he was selected in the 15th round by the Minnesota Twins during the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on June 11. “It’s a pretty surreal feeling," stated Wells. Wells earns multiple honors in 2016
By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| Coyote right-handed pitcher Tyler Wells was selected for the All-CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) first team, which took place during the CCAA tournament banquet. Wells joined a team of 16 others to make up the All-CCAA first team and 16 members of the All-CCAA second team for a total of 33 and was the only Coyote representing CSUSB. Wells finished the season, tied for first for most strikeouts in the CCAA with a total of 89 and he was able to led CSUSB to the CCAA Tournament for the first time in four seasons. Baseball falls to top two CCAA teams
By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| CSUSB baseball took their efforts to Stockton for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament, but were shut down by both Cal State East Bay and Cal Poly Pomona. The team traveled to Stockton for the CCAA tournament, which was held at Banner Island Ballpark. Banner Island Ballpark is the home of the Stockton Ports, a minor league baseball team who are affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. This weekend's performance, which was up against California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) first place team in the South Division, was a tough matchup that did not displayed the Coyote's abilities. The CCAA series opener took place on April 29 at Fiscalini Field, where left-handed pitcher Don Sullivan got the start. Sullivan threw a total of 102 pitches over eight innings, allowing four hits, all singles, no walks and six strikeouts. Baseball wins series against CS San Marcos

The first game of the series took place on March 4 in the late morning and was the Coyotes only loss. Tyler Wells, the game one starting pitcher, threw six strong innings; only allowing one run on five hits. However, the Coyotes are still confident in doing better in their next game. Coyotes started off strong with a 2-1 win on April 16. Game one starter and right-hand pitcher Tyler Wells went eight and one-third innings while only giving up three hits. Baseball falls to Tritons
By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| The Coyote baseball team fell completely short from Feb. 26 to 28 as they took on UC San Diego’s Tritons in a four game series. The first night’s game was hosted in La Jolla where right-handed pitcher (RHP) Tyler Wells threw 104 pitches over five innings. Wells racked up eight strikeouts and only allowed one run. Catcher and first baseman Brian Lockey started the game off with a two-run single, giving the Coyotes a 2-0 lead in the first.
