American Horror Story: 1984 Review

November 1, 2019 by Adrienne Rosiles 331 Comments

Season 9 of American Horror Story (AHS) created by Ryan Murphy brings back the 80's slasher films era. A perfect way to kick off this year's "spooky season." AHS: 1984 follows the Camp Crystal Lake theme from Friday the 13th. This season focuses on a group of young adults in Los Angeles heading into the newly reopened Camp Redwood in escape of the summer heat as camp counselors. After being warned that reopening Camp Redwood is a mistake, the gang still heads for the woods, as any 80's slasher film cast would. AHS: 1984 is continuing to slowly tie in seasons together, such as season 5, AHS: Hotel. Although it may not be the last season, the main actors Sarah Paulson and Evan … [Read more...] about American Horror Story: 1984 Review

The Handmaid’s Fail: how the shift to streaming is tweaking storytelling in television

October 16, 2019 by Sydney Fregozo 277 Comments

By Diana D'arcangelo More than a decade ago in the mid-aughts, there was no greater constant in my life than my Saturday morning routine. Still in my pajamas, I would wake up by 9 am, grab my bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and sit in front of the living room TV to watch the newest episode of Yu-Gi-Oh, dubbed into child-friendly English from its original Japanese. Unless I pestered my parents into buying me a VHS copy of my shows, and since we normally couldn’t afford cable, Saturday mornings were my only brief window into this captivating world of color, dialogue, and narrative. Dramatic arcs would be laid down brick by brick, week after week in 22-minute timeslots, culminating in … [Read more...] about The Handmaid’s Fail: how the shift to streaming is tweaking storytelling in television

Changing channels, turning pages; Coyotes’ perspective

October 18, 2014 by Archived posts 70 Comments

By Danielle Brooks |Staff Writer| Is there a correlation between the increase of viewing television and the decrease of reading literature? According to a study by Pew Research Center in 2014, the amount of people who haven't read a book is at 23 percent. This proportion has nearly tripled since 1978, when only eight percent of people hadn't read a book. As busy college students, employees, and in some cases, parents, it can be hard to find the time to sit down and read a good book, but lack of time isn't the only thing to blame. Erica Levy is attracted to visual entertainment rather than literature. "After a long day of school, I would prefer to watch T.V. My favorite show is … [Read more...] about Changing channels, turning pages; Coyotes’ perspective

By Shannon Luster |Staff Writer| She and Him returned with a 14-song compilation of catchy and foot-tapping good tunes in their third album Volume 3, recently released on May 14. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward make up the band, which has become wildly popular, especially in the independent music circuit. The band’s music is an influence from 1960s bands like The Beach Boys, well known for their breakthrough, psychedelic album, Pet Sounds, in 1966, including popular songs like “Good Vibrations.” She and Him’s vintage fashion sense also reflects their music, both a throwback to an earlier era, but with a modern twist. By Mariela Limon |Staff Writer| The popularity of television shows and fashion go hand in hand. It is impossible to imagine that one could survive without the other. In recent years shows such as Mad Men, Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire, all period dramas, have acclaimed audiences of all ages. With such good ratings one can only wonder if the show's fashion sense influences its viewers? What is she wearing on tonight's episode? I love those shoes! Where can I buy that bag?
