Tumblr Girl Take Over

November 16, 2015 by Archived posts 49 Comments

By Vivian Gurrola-Amissah |Staff Writer| Today, society's visual of a "Tumblr girl" is pretty feminine girls posting pictures of their trendy hairstyles, dressed in the most stylish hipster outfits, celebrity news, cliche quotes, and gifs on your favorite TV shows to spare. For some reason Tumblr girls always seem to look better, maybe even perfect, through their corny quotes, animal videos, sunset pictures and mainstream radio songs. Although, many girls have received plenty of criticism over the term "Tumblr girl," many do not seek to realize it is not always about girls showing themselves off or their outfits. Rapper G-Eazy talks about the blog site in his hit song "Tumblr … [Read more...] about Tumblr Girl Take Over

May 3, 2015 by Brittanie Gutierrez 183 Comments

By Brittanie Gutierrez |Staff Writer| Online trends on social media regarding social issues and topics have become more about provoking shallow interests and attention rather than creating social awareness. In my opinion, the misuse of social media in aimlessly popularizing trends can result in self-absorption, which leads to lack of awareness.   “A lot of people do it for attention,” said student Jaynene Moreno.   People notice hashtags and use them but pay little to no attention to the issue or topic associated with the hashtag because it is more important to fit in than to actually voice their opinions.   “They use it to be cool,” said student Martha … [Read more...] about Online media trends influence social trends

Don’t get lost socializing, share facts

October 11, 2014 by Archived posts 544 Comments

By Ariana Cano |Staff Writer| Social media should not be limited to sharing personal quips, it should be used for creating useful and informational content. We all have different reasons for why we use social media. Expanding how you use social media can help increase public awareness on different topics others may not be as aware. You may want to post a selfie at Starbucks or tweet that you are bored at school, but also consider sharing relevant information with your followers. Many organizations are currently taking advantage of these social media outlets to connect with customers and employees. One way to connect is by using hashtags. Hashtags are an effective and … [Read more...] about Don’t get lost socializing, share facts

Students are big time procrastinators especially during midterms. They don’t have extra time or money to make plans or buy extravagant presents for their friends or significant others. Secure your identity, don’t be a victim

May 3, 2013 by Archived posts 137 Comments

By LynnPost |Staff Writer| Identity theft is a world wide problem and can happen with just a click of a mouse.  Thousands of cases of identity theft through social media have even been reported. At least one person in 8.6 million households in 2010 had their identity stolen, according to the Federal Bureau of Justice Statistics. With numbers that high you should ask could I be next and how can I avoid becoming a victim? To make sure no strangers could access my personal information I made my profile private. Only the people I grant access to can view my private information. The only thing that is available to the public is my profile picture and my cover photo. However, … [Read more...] about Secure your identity, don’t be a victim

Whether its retweeted, reposted, "liked," or passed on from region to region, it's going to be discovered. This is exactly what has happened to viral sensation MS MR. On September 17, the Tumblr legions discovered Brooklyn-based duo MS MR when they released their long awaited four-track EP, Candy Bar Creep Show.
