Men’s Soccer History

November 7, 2016 by Kieron Coleman 19 Comments

By Kieron Coleman |Staff Writer| The Coyote soccer program started in 1984, 19 years after the school opened in ’65. From '84 to '90 the men's program competed in Division III, with a record of 84 wins, 41 losses and 7 draws. Within college sports there are three divisions that schools can compete in. Division I schools are considered to be the most competitive. They tend to have the most publicity when it comes to games and are recognized as being well-funded programs, which allows them to own a lot more scholarships. Division II, which our school is a part of, is the middle bracket of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA.) It is seen to be less competitive due … [Read more...] about Men’s Soccer History

October 26, 2013 by Archived posts 1 Comment

By Greg Avetisyan |Staff Writer| The 25th ranked Coyotes suffered a 1-0 defeat to the hands of the 22nd ranked Sonoma State Seawolves. Freshmen Kiana Quarles, Susan Ibarra, and Jessica Koch had the only three shots on goal for the Coyotes during Sunday’s game. Sonoma State’s Taylor Enzler scored in the 86th minute to give her team the victory. Sonoma State improved to 9-2-3 as they out-shot the Coyotes 17-6. Quarles’ shot came two minutes into the game. However, it was stopped by Sonoma goalkeeper Allison Hadidian. “I think our team played well. We were prepared for a challenge and we fought through the entire game. Toward the end we just got unlucky. Although it’s … [Read more...] about Women’s soccer stumbled over loss against Sonoma

CSUSB Men’s Soccer struggle in match against CSULA

October 5, 2013 by Archived posts 2 Comments

By Greg Avetisyan |Staff Writer| The Coyotes men’s soccer team suffered defeat 2-1 on Sunday, Sept. 29 against Cal State University Los Angeles. Beginning the season 4-0-2, the losing streak placed the team at 4-4-2 overall and 2-4 in CCAA. It’s been a tough stretch for the Coyotes as they failed to score a goal in their previous three games losing 1-0. Despite having four key players injured, the Coyotes broke the slump when junior Omar Laris scored his first goal in the first half. The team scored in the last few minutes of the game. The goal came from a corner kick as Andre Spencer Jr. helped the assist. However Laris’s goal was not enough, CSULA’s junior forward … [Read more...] about CSUSB Men’s Soccer struggle in match against CSULA

Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs

October 26, 2012 by Archived posts

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| If you walked into the woman’s soccer team practice you wouldn’t be able to know that they just lost three straight games and missed the playoffs. Instead, you would hear laughter and chatter about the recent mid-terms and be able to see the smiles spread across their faces. The mood was light and relaxed. It made me wonder if the stressful week of needing to win two games against opponents like Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus had weighed them down. It might have, but it also may have been inexperience. “I thought the game was even,” said Coach Travis Clarke when talking about the team’s loss to Chico on Oct. 19. “Kind of chalk that one … [Read more...] about Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs

Women’s soccer inches closer to playoffs with win over Chico

October 20, 2012 by Archived posts

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The women’s soccer team hoped to secure a spot in the playoffs and 2nd place in the South Division going into the weekend. Coming into the match against Chico State on Friday, the Lady Coyotes ranked fourth in their division, just two points behind Cal State L.A. for second. If the Coyotes manage to win each of their next two games, they would qualify for an automatic bid to the CCAA tournament. With two important games this weekend and two more games just as important next weekend, women’s head soccer coach Travis Clarke is doing everything he can to keep the team relaxed in practice. “They just do things to kind of lighten the mood a little bit. … [Read more...] about Women’s soccer inches closer to playoffs with win over Chico

Women’s soccer encounters a tough loss

October 18, 2012 by Archived posts

By Megan Acuna |Staff Writer| The Coyotes women's soccer team lost to the Seawolves of Sonoma State University in a 2-0 shutout Sunday, Oct. 7 at Rohnert Park. The Seawolves got two goals past our Coyotes within five minutes of each other halfway through the first period. This loss brought the Coyote's record to 6-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in CCAA. Head Coach Travis Clarke attributes this loss to the ladies making "a few early mistakes in the game that ended up costing us" but also adds that the Coyotes "worked very hard [and] gave a lot of effort." What made this game even harder for the Coyotes were the absences of their Junior midfielder Jasmine Bell and Senior forward Jani … [Read more...] about Women’s soccer encounters a tough loss
