Professors talk Islamophobia
By Josh Adamson |Staff Writer| Suspicion towards Islam and anti-Muslim hate crimes are increasing across the US. Such actions were recently seen in the arrest of three men who allegedly planned to use a weapon of mass destruction to target Somali immigrants in western Kansas. “Social surveys indicate we are experiencing the highest level of anti-Muslim prejudice in recent history, with Muslims representing the most disdained religious faith in the United States,” stated Brian Levin, director of the CSUSB Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism. In Detroit, Mary “Unique” Spears, a mother of three, was murdered after she rejected a … [Read more...] about It’s a strange world we live in
Obama launches spy reforms of phone records
By Clarissa Toll |Staff Writer| President Barack Obama has set out to reform the way Americans’ phone records are collected for the government’s use. Obama intends to change the way these records are obtained, but is struggling with technical and political problems. “Effective immediately, we will only pursue phone calls that are two steps removed from a number associated with a terrorist organization, instead of the current three,” said Obama in his recent speech about National Security Association reforms. Currently, the records make up a data system of numbers and call length times that can be accessed to run assumed terrorists’ numbers against. General Counsel for the NSA says … [Read more...] about Obama launches spy reforms of phone records
