May 22, 2019 by Irma Martinez 36 Comments

Mitla Cafe opened its doors in San Bernardino 1937 and little did the owner Lucia Rodriguez and Vicente Montaño know that their success would "help" another company reach a network of $10 billion. It is not so much help but being cheated out of. Mitla is known for their fried corn tortilla tacos with ground beef, shredded lettuce and cheese, topped off with diced tomatoes. Sound familiar? Well, that's because it is. That fried taco that helped Mitla Cafe generate business is now one of Taco Bell's … [Read more...] about Mitla Cafe: the taco that started it all

Students encouraged to voice concerns

November 7, 2014 by Archived posts 38 Comments

By Janeth Jaimes |Staff Writer| Students should express their concerns about campus needs, such as healthy meal options and additional assisted programs, but many feel that their solutions will not make a difference. Students spoke about their concerns and issues, and many proposed great ideas. If students do not share their opinions, it becomes difficult for the campus to provide a fun and educational environment. “I would like to see healthier food options in the food court’s menu,” said CSUSB junior Vanessa Velasquez. “Sometimes, I do not bring my own food and have to buy food on campus, but it is disappointing that there are not many healthy meals options,” added … [Read more...] about Students encouraged to voice concerns

Good campus places to eat

May 3, 2014 by Archived posts 84 Comments

By Mark Kloping |Staff Writer| The hunger that CSUSB students endure is something that cannot be ignored. Classes, group projects, studying and other school activities take up plenty of time in the day for CSUSB students. So, where does a coyote refuel? What are the best and worst spots to consume brain food? Some obvious choices would be the SMSU building—or maybe the Commons. Others would be neighboring restaurants seen on the way in and out of campus. Communications major Tiffany Moyes doesn’t like the options at school, so she simply does not eat during the day. Moyes is a student that is health conscious when it comes to food, so she feels the need to seek out better … [Read more...] about Good campus places to eat

Line etiquette: get in and get out

May 2, 2011 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Angelina Garibay |Staff Writer| Picture this: I am standing in line at Kohl’s behind a woman waiting for the first available cashier and all of a sudden there is a man making his own line in front of ours. “What do you think that man is doing?” I whisper to the woman, “Doesn’t he realize the line is back here?” I am frustrated, but we decide to leave him blissfully ignorant. Waiting in line for your turn is something that everyone learns in kindergarten.  It’s a useful skill that gets drilled into you throughout your educational experience. But, has line etiquette been drilled into everyone? Have you ever been irritated by someone’s lack of decision making capabilities … [Read more...] about Line etiquette: get in and get out
