The State Water Resources Control Board donated the grant to the entire CSU system; it focuses on the formation of programs and implementation of grants for students and faculty so that research can be done on the communities in need. CSUs may receive millions
By Jorge Campos |Staff Writer| Gov. Jerry Brown proposed a $115.3 million spending plan that could provide millions for the Cal State University system. In return for the spending plan, Brown proposed on Thursday, May 14, to freeze undergraduate tuition for in-state students and establish new tax credit for the working lower class. Lawmakers have until midnight, June 15, to present a fair budget plan and send it to Brown for his signature, according to The San Bernardino Sun. The California State University system is raising the tuition up by 9.1 percent, increasing the amount that we pay every quarter. From Fall 2011 to Fall 2012 the increase of tuition has sky-rocked since last academic year making the final total $498 and rising drastically. It makes it hard for a lot of students to even think about coming to school because the capacity of units that we can take is now 17 beginning in Fall 2012. Gov. Brown proposes flat budget for CSU system
By Courtney Sims |Staff Writer| Gov. Jerry Brown’s new budget proposal for the California State University (CSU) system will affect all 23 of the CSU campuses. State funding allocated for the CSU system for the 2012-2013 academic school year will only be $2 billion, the lowest it's been since 1997-1998. Over the past two years the state’s budget has called for over $750 million in cuts to the CSU system, affecting students, parents and the CSU staff. Senate Bill seeks to limit CSU president salaries
By Melissa Benton |Staff Writer| Senate Bill 755, introduced by Senator Ted W. Lieu, would limit CSU president salaries to 150 percent of the salary of California’s Chief Justice. According to the National Center for State Courts, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye currently earns $228,856. This means that CSU presidents could earn up to $343,269. SB 755 would require that the CSU Board of Trustees discuss tuition or salary increases in an open session. It also would stop pay increases or bonuses to campus presidents if student tuition was raised in the last three years.
