24/7 Study Space
By Samantha Flores |Staff Writer| Technology Services is in the process of providing a 24-hour study space for all students. The purpose of this study space is to give our students another quiet study area on campus that would be open all the time during regular quarters, according to Dr. Samuel Sudhakar, Vice President Information Technology Services. The study space, popularly known as 'The Wedge', is currently open from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, until the 24/7 hours of operation are officially implemented. "I think its great because there is no time limit, no interruptions, you don't have to worry about the place closing for the night," said student Alejandra … [Read more...] about 24/7 Study Space
Water polo club brings polo back to CSUSB
By Suriel Chavez |Staff Writer| Women's water polo was a part of the CSUSB campus for over a decade, but the program was disassembled. That has not stopped Coyotes from forming a co-ed water polo club. Women's water polo's first year at CSUSB was in 1999 and its last season ended in 2014. After not having a winning season since 2008, the program was cut. CSUSB has not seen the last of water polo. A women's water polo club was started with the conclusion of the team, but it was reformed due to the lack of participants. The water polo club is a new, co-ed, sports club that will be meeting every Monday and Wednesday at the pool. Practices will start early in the morning at … [Read more...] about Water polo club brings polo back to CSUSB
Father of the pill dies
By Mackenzie Viera |Staff Writer| Dr. Carl Djerassi, best known as the father of birth control, died in his San Francisco home at 91. The chemist developed a molecule that served as the key ingredient to the birth control pill, allowing women to take a new-found control in their lives by preventing unplanned pregnancies. Djerassi wrote many books, one of which was titled “The Man’s Pill”, where he expressed his interest in the way the pill affected society. The evolution of birth control can be traced as far back as 1500 B.C. when women created concoctions made of crocodile feces. Djerassi lead a team in a Mexico City laboratory to study and discover the primary chemical … [Read more...] about Father of the pill dies
Spectacular mundane
By Mackenzie Viera |Staff Writer| As of Fall 2014, CSUSB has an enrollment total of 18,952 students. Imagine getting to know each person, one story at a time. "My last burp tasted like the chili dog from last night," said Gilbert. "It didn't even taste like the meat, it was more like the juice or the grease." Inspired by the hit photoblog "Humans of New York", Coyotes of CSUSB was created to share the stories and memories of our fellow students. Sophomore Ashley Lawrence proudly shared the happiest moment of her life—raising her GPA from a 2.3 to a 3.4. "I've never had a GPA that high even in high school, so all my hard work and showing up to class really paid off." In … [Read more...] about Spectacular mundane

How to be prepared for CSUSB’s crazy weather changes
By Mark Klopping |Staff Writer| A boy sits in the shade waiting for his sister in a hooded sweatshirt and jeans, hands in his pockets while tree branches shade him from the sun that was once masked by the morning haze. For Southern Californians, this weather is nothing out of the ordinary. On Wednesday April 16, the sun was out in partial force. San Bernardino is no stranger to winds, rain and temperatures in the high 80s—this is the life known for all CSUSB students. Tyler Graham, a local high school student visiting the campus knows the difficulties of this Southern California weather. “It says it’s going to be cold, but then it’s hot, then it turns cold and it’s hot … [Read more...] about How to be prepared for CSUSB’s crazy weather changes
Consider your housing options
By Loydie Burmah |Staff Writer| It is difficult as students to afford a comfortable living, but given the options of staying at home, on-campus housing, or living in a nearby residential area, I would say that living at home would be the most affordable option, for those granted that opportunity. I currently live at home with my family, and have been for the duration of my college education. It is argued that living on campus provides a better college experience but when considering on-campus rental costs, I wonder if it is truly worth paying the price. Kapono Santiago, who resides in Moreno Valley, believes that living at home is a better option for him, even considering the rough … [Read more...] about Consider your housing options
Food service management company, Sodexo, finally making changes for the better
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| For years, students have been questioning the validity of the dining services branch, Sodexo. This entity which controls the options afforded to student dining on campus, has recently made changes to one of the most visited venues in the union, The Coyote Market. “I purchase from the Market a lot and I really appreciated the convenience aspect of it. I can grab something that I know as familiar, not fast food, and with relative ease and at cheap prices,” said student Brian Morales. However, students have begun to notice slow changes like the size of the chip bag shrinking and the packages of donuts smaller in number and size. “I also think that … [Read more...] about Food service management company, Sodexo, finally making changes for the better
Campus housing hassle
By Alejandra Arana |Staff Writer| If you are thinking of moving to the on-campus housing that is available at CSUSB, don’t do it! Housing charges way too much money to live in their little rooms with random people that cause too many problems. They rarely allow residents to change rooms unless they jump through all the hoops put in place for us to deal with. Having to deal with loud, obnoxious and rude roommates and neighbors is ridiculous and uncalled for. It needs to be easier to move to a different room, but campus housing just makes your life hard if you try to. I do not pay over $700 a month to be kept up until 2 a.m. every night just because the people above me like to … [Read more...] about Campus housing hassle
