Campus police seek the community’s help to ensure campus safety

Campus police work with members of the community to help make the campus’ grounds safe and accessible to anyone who steps foot on campus. Campus safety is a major concern for students, staff, and faculty. They rely on their campus’ police to keep them safe and for everyone else who visits the campus. According to a research study conducted by a criminal defense lawyer, Graham Donath, and digital agency 1point21 Interactive, San Bernardino is ranked as the most dangerous city in California. CSUSB Celebrates 50 with a Parade

By Dawnielle Floyd |Staff Writer| Hundreds of community members and students gathered on the CSUSB lawn to watch over 20 floats parade down to the Coussoulis Arena in celebration of 50 years of higher education. Preparation for the Homecoming celebration started back in November, when the entire campus and community were invited by the Alumni Association to come enjoy and participate in the festivities this past weekend. Professors protest against low salaries

By Daniel DeMarco and Marlyn Rodriguez |Features Editor & Asst. Managing Editor| Faculty began protesting outside the San Manuel Student Union (SMSU) at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2014. Their protest concerned faculty wages that they claim have not been raised in eight years. Approximately 30 faculty and staff members stood outside the main entrance of the Student Union holding picket signs and marching for their cause. An abundance of students were watching and supporting the protesting staff. December 8th 2012 Shooting of Bartholomew Williams

By Luz Hernandez |Staff Writer| A 38-year-old Cal State San Bernardino graduate student was shot and killed by campus police on Dec. 8. Bartholomew Williams died during an altercation with campus police, just after the CSUSB Commencement Ceremonies. The tragedy has left students, faculty and staff at CSUSB in shock. University officials have been holding open forums for members of our university community to express their sentiments and concerns regarding the shooting. CSU executives paid more than accounted

According to the senator’s Chief of Staff, Adam Keigwin, executives reported to the public a much lower salary than what is reflected by IRS statements, leading the public to feel betrayed. “They should be helping us out instead of doing things for their own personal benefit,” said student Esmeralda Acosta. “If they were honest from the get-go we would really know how much debt we are in,” said student Kim Gonzalez. Motown influences Black America

Pfau Library and Black Faculty, Staff and Student Association presented a lecture last Thursday, “Remembering Motown: The Politics of Sound and Performance.” According to the chair of theatre arts department and host Kathryn Erwin, the seminar covered how “Motown influenced popular culture and re-created the image of Black America.” The event was part of the Noontime Lecture Series held by the Pfau Library and took place Feb. 16 on the fourth floor. Free legal advice for students

At CSUSB the College Legal Clinic (CLC) offers students a place to meet with lawyers in order to receive free legal advice. Students who may be facing legal issues and would like to consult with a lawyer without paying out of pocket and visiting several law offices, can schedule an appointment to meet with one on campus for free. “The average price of a similar consultation in the San Bernardino/Riverside counties is $30,” said Sarah Gass, a student who works at the CLC.
