By Woojung Choi |Staff Writer| Many Coyotes do not like the price, quality, or variety of foods offered on campus. “We are proud to offer a dining program complete with signature brands and menu selections that entail just about every item you can imagine,” according to the CSUSB Dining Services’ homepage. On the Sodexo CSUSB Facebook page, 13 students have rated the campus’ food and service, averaging a 3.3 out of 5 stars. All of the five, four, three, and two star reviews are not accompanied with comments, however a few one star reviews are elaborated. “Extremely slow service and some workers need to retake their food safety class to learn about cleanliness,” stated Yousef Ar … [Read more...] about Sodexo’s food assaults tastebuds
By Emmanuel Gutierrez |Staff Writer| Sodexo, in charge of CSUSB’s dining service, faces a class action lawsuit from employees who were not compensated for retroactive wages. Between March 13, 2012 to November 15, 2013. Sodexo, one of the largest food service corporations in the world, has had reported cases of unresolved retroactive wage claims—pay that has not been sent to an employee for work that has already been completed. Lorenzo Barrera, personally and on behalf of other employees, filed a class action lawsuit against Sodexo, Inc. for retroactive pay. “Sodexo will pay $600,000 as the maximum settlement amount,” if the case is ruled in favor of the employees, stated in the … [Read more...] about Sodexo workers sue to get paid
By Torilynn Qualls |Staff Writer|. I have found that Sodexo’s on-campus food pricing is comparable to off-campus fast food and lowering the prices will strain the workers financially, so if you don’t like it bring your own food. Generally, a combo meal at any fast food restaurant will cost around $7 and the same can be said for the majority of food establishments on campus. However, many students believe that food pricing on campus is way too high. “My tuition is way too much for me to be spending about $10 on campus just for food,” said student Courtney Cypert. Cypert also said that she didn’t believe there were enough food choices on campus, and that she would … [Read more...] about Is campus food really expensive?
By Phil Ruddle |Staff Writer| Our campus is the home to thousands of students and must be kept clean in order to maintain a healthy living environment. But is the campus being efficient when it comes to disposing waste? What happens with all the left-over food at the end of the day? Does it just get thrown out or do they keep them until the food is gone? What happens to all of the paper waste, recyclables and cans/bottles…? Norwegian international student Tonje Lystad said, “I really think that they just take all of the food that doesn’t get eaten, put it in one giant trash can, and throw it in the dumpster.” That’s a possibility, but when asked what she believes should be done … [Read more...] about Issues our campus face with being green
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| For years, students have been questioning the validity of the dining services branch, Sodexo. This entity which controls the options afforded to student dining on campus, has recently made changes to one of the most visited venues in the union, The Coyote Market. “I purchase from the Market a lot and I really appreciated the convenience aspect of it. I can grab something that I know as familiar, not fast food, and with relative ease and at cheap prices,” said student Brian Morales. However, students have begun to notice slow changes like the size of the chip bag shrinking and the packages of donuts smaller in number and size. “I also think that … [Read more...] about Food service management company, Sodexo, finally making changes for the better
By Nin Garcia |Staff Writer| Efforts have been made to improve the quality of the Health and Food Services here on campus. Sodexo is one of the many services we have here on campus that provide a variety of food to the student body. Sodexo Manager Dave Janosky said they are trying to make a difference in educating students for healthier options and look for ways to offer students food that’s more personal to them. Sodexo is providing students with nutritional information such as giant poster boards around the Student Union that show the breakdown of the calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium and protein in their food offerings. That way the students are aware of the food they are about … [Read more...] about Health and Food
By Alejandra Arana |Staff Writer| Be honest, you are tired of overpaying for the same food every day here on campus like I am. In fact, Sodexo’s less-than-healthy, underwhelming food is only the start of it. It’s the company’s stranglehold on campus eateries that really shows where its values are. Sodexo is a Maryland-based food service company catering to large institutions like our very own CSUSB. I understand that they are a business, and businesses exist to make money, but it’s the way that Sodexo just assumes and banks on students (anyone on campus for that matter) just too busy to realize that there is a real life monopoly on campus. Ask yourself, how many times have you … [Read more...] about Sodexo plays hungry students like Monopoly
