Under the Hollywood Sign

By Janet Martinez |Staff Writer| Pride Prom was hosted by SMSU Pride Center and took place in the Fourplex of the Santos Manuel Student Union on April 27 from 8-11 p.m. The progressive event is on its seventh year and many students look forward to this prom in the spring quarter. The coordinator of this event was Naomi S., who made the event possible for all students to enjoy. “Students are stereotyped because of their gender or who they are, but with Pride Prom you are able to come as yourself,” said Naomi. This event was incepted by many LGBTQ-identified students who were not able to attend their school prom because of their inability to be themselves. Late Night with Pride

By Arthur Medrano |Staff Writer| CSUSB students were welcomed to attend this quarter’s Late Night with Pride in the student union. The event was held on April 7, and was a warm welcome back for new and returning students at the start of the quarter. Many students settled themselves in by lounging around on the couches and chairs provided. The social interaction was a great investment for all diverse students to make friends with great people, and advocate their beliefs that coincide with what the Pride Center stands for. Being one of several events they … [Read more...] about Late Night with Pride

Q-Fest shines with pride

By Nadia Ahmad |Staff Writer| Q-Fest, hosted by the SMSU Pride Center, filled the Events Center with a mix of music, crafts, and vendors on Oct. 24. The Pride Center’s goal is to provide a safe and comforting environment for students of all genders and sexualities. Q-Fest did just that. The Pride Center lured everyone to the events center with free pizza and live bands. Wasi, a trio from Orange County, was the first band to perform and in my opinion, did an amazing job adding volume and energy to the room. The band started out as background music for the students as they floated from vendor to vendor but after the first two songs, everyone crowded together in front of the … [Read more...] about Q-Fest shines with pride

Colors of the Rainbow has CSUSB students talking about coming out

By Kevin Schaefer |Staff Writer| People of color need better representation in the LGBTTQQIA community and the community at large. This was one of the sentiments expressed on March 6 at Colors of the Rainbow held in the SMSU Theater. The Pride Center hosted a panel of LGBTTQQIA people of color who talked about their experiences and discussed different aspects about being a person of color within the LGBTTQQIA community. The panel included Alex Iling, DeeJay Brown, Bien Fule-ver, Virginia Millacci and Izak Perrez. The panelist talked about their experiences, the organizations they’re involved in, as well as different issues that impact the LGBTTQQIA community. “If you look … [Read more...] about Colors of the Rainbow has CSUSB students talking about coming out
