Concern for animals isn’t only for vegetarians

June 3, 2012 by Archived posts

By Shanieka Perrier |Staff Writer| Think about how you feel when you’re biting into a big, juicy and delicious hamburger. Now, did you know that innocent animals are put in cages and then slaughtered in order to make that hamburger? Some food establishments are now seeking to implement changes in the way they house the animals they use to create their foods. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, but I would rather eat from animals that are not stuffed in cramped cages. The healthier the animal, the better the food will taste. Burger King is one of several food chains that are now providing cage-free animal products. Burger King became the first major U.S. fast food chain to pledge that … [Read more...] about Concern for animals isn’t only for vegetarians

Stressed students would benefit from massage bed

May 27, 2012 by Archived posts

By Shanieka Perrier |Staff Writer| Are you feeling stressed and want to relax? Well head on down to the Student Fitness and Recreational Center and see where your future massage bed will be. The Recreational Committee is having a board of directors meeting to discuss whether or not they should make an addition to the SFRC, a state of the art Hydro Massage Bed. The public affairs office is handing out surveys to get the students’ perspective on whether or not is it a good idea. For the school to consider my position as a student shows that CSUSB students’ opinions are valued. Initially I was against it. However, after researching the possibility of it, I’m for it. With the state … [Read more...] about Stressed students would benefit from massage bed

Leave our interest rates alone

April 26, 2012 by Archived posts

By Shanieka Perrier |Staff Writer| It’s unfair that Congress is considering doubling our student loan interest rates. Congress is set to pass a bill doubling interest rates on student loans. This decision is taking place this summer,  according to the LA Times. I’m a college undergraduate student dependent on loans. How am I going to pay back these ridiculous loan rates after I graduate? What’s interesting to me is that both Obama and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) agree that Congress shouldn’t increase the student loan rates, according to Yahoo! News. It bothers me that Romney doesn’t have a clear plan. I would like to know how Romney plans to help out low-income undergraduate … [Read more...] about Leave our interest rates alone

Housing should ease up on parking regulations

April 12, 2012 by Archived posts 71 Comments

By Shanieka Perrier |Staff Writer| Did you know that a parking ticket at CSUSB is $45 and if you do not pay within the first 21 days the cost will be increased with an additional late fee of $40? While I was waiting for my paycheck to come in so I could buy a parking permit, I got slapped with a $45 parking violation. The cost of a parking permit is $102 and the ticket is $45, which comes out to a total of $147. If I am going to pay that much money, I might as well buy the annual pass. The daily parking permits should allow students who live on campus to park inside the gates at University Village and anywhere else they would like. If you have a quarterly or annual permit you are … [Read more...] about Housing should ease up on parking regulations
