Serrano Village

The ups and downs of dorm life

May 16, 2014 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Melissa Gilbert |Staff Writer| Although CSUSB is known as a commuter school, approximately 1,500 students choose to live in the dorms because they want a full college experience. Savannah Barras describes her experience in the dorms at Serrano Village as great. “The biggest thing I love about living here is the atmosphere. I never thought living on campus would bring so many opportunities my way,” said Barras. She also explained that campus life is more convenient, since she doesn’t have to drive to school everyday. “Not having to drive to campus is amazing! You just wake up and walk to class. You definitely do not need a car living here since everything is so close by,” said … [Read more...] about The ups and downs of dorm life

Residential assistants get students dancing

October 26, 2013 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Kenneth Young |Staff Writer| Country Line dancing made its way to CSUSB on Oct. 21, between the Joshua and Mojave buildings at Serrano Village. The event was organized by Tommy Slocumb, the residential assistant (RA) for the Joshua Building. The event lasted an hour, with approximately 20-30 student participants. Every quarter, each RA from Serrano Village organizes two events that are open to both residents and commuters. With this in mind, Slocumb jumped at the chance to host the country line dance. “I’ve had a passion for country music since I was a child,” Slocumb said. “And country line dancing was exactly how I wanted to express that.” A love for country … [Read more...] about Residential assistants get students dancing

For my first week, I had absolutely nothing in my room; it was so painfully bare that I felt like it wasn't really mine. At first I started simple, putting color hooks on my walls, hanging stuff on it and then gradually adding posters and knick-knacks. I had a conversation with my roommates about decorating our rooms and making it feel more like home and we came to a conclusion that these walls were just … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life

San Bernardino, CSUSB sucks water at staggering rates

April 20, 2012 by Archived posts

By Jonathan Ng |Staff Writer| Water consumption is a financial factor to the community here in San Bernardino, and can prove to be a very costly problem if not taken seriously. According to the City of San Bernardino Water Department, the city uses an average of about 226 gallons of water per person each day for both residential and commercial purposes. Citizens unaware of household appliance water consumption may consume more water than they might think. According to the City of San Bernardino Water Department: 30–35 gallons of water is used per load of laundry, 5–8 gallons of water is used per minute in the shower, running faucets use 3–7 gallons per minute, and toilets use … [Read more...] about San Bernardino, CSUSB sucks water at staggering rates
