South Africa is a country that is still transitioning from decades of segregation. Although apartheid may have ended over 20 years ago, the feeling of division is still there. I was curious to know how racism affected people in this climate of change and how their experiences compared to my own. My research has provided this understanding. Financial Aid Advisor, Andrea Cowser, of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships presented the online process for scholarship applications at CSUSB on January 16, 2020. Before applying for the scholarships, Cowser noted that in order to be considered for CSUSB scholarships, a completion of the FAFSA for the academic year of 2020-2021 will need to be filled out already. “We highly recommend that you actually file the 2020-2021 FAFSA application. So many of our CSUSB scholarships are need-based, so we do require student applicants to complete a FAFSA application,” she clarified. CSUSB Raises Money for Scholarships with Giving Tuesday
On Nov. 28, CSUSB held its first Giving Tuesday, where a new tradition was formed involving students, alumni, parents, faculty, and staff coming together to fund new student scholarships. Known as a nationally recognized event, Giving Tuesday is celebrated around the world as a way to use social media as a platform to spread the gift of giving after the Thanksgiving holiday. CSU alumni scholarships awarded

The winners of the scholarship are Paul Gomez of CSU Los Angeles, Gordon Jones of CSU Northridge and Dana Stemig of San Jose State and CSU Stanislaus. They were randomly selected from thousands of entries on CSU’s digital Class of Three Million Yearbook, according to an article in The Sun. “Wow that’s amazing! Jack Brown donates $100,000 to scholarship fund
By KatherineValadez |Staff Writer| Jack H. Brown, chairman of Stater Bros. markets, donated over $100,000 to CSUSB for the university’s Rose Brown Scholarship fund. The scholarship was established in 2000 by Jack Brown as a tribute to his mother, Rose Brown on her 80th birthday. “He admired her for being widowed at a very young age, and she never remarried while she was raising her son,” said Carmen Murillo-Moyeda, a public affairs marketing specialist for CSUSB. Jack Brown, for whom Jack Brown Hall is named, created the scholarship to help widowed and single parents, according to Murillo-Moyeda.
