November 15, 2011 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Suanna Gutierrez |Staff Writer| The House of Representatives passed a bill last week to reaffirm the nation’s motto as the phrase “In God We Trust.” While this sparks many topics to debate, it is a bill that I can support through the constant downpour of issues that seem to overwhelmingly divide us as a nation. All religious, spiritual, ethical or semantic contention aside, it is an important phrase to instill as our nations motto. It is a moral identity that should be important to all of us as Americans to protect. The phrase “In God We Trust,” to me, is a part of the timeless and revolutionary structure of America. By Eileen  Gutierrez  |Staff Writer| The Coyote volleyball team has made this a season to remember. They have gone undefeated so far this season, with a 24-0 record and a home winning streak of 55 games. The Coyotes recently clinched their sixth straight CCAA title, their ninth in the last 11 years. The team clinched the title with their 3-0 win over No. 23, Sonoma State. The clinch only tells half the story of the remarkable season the Coyotes have had thus far. The girls have yet to lose a single game, having won 24 consecutive games. “Not the goal! We just want to win every time,” said Coach Cherniss when asked if about the undefeated season. Associate head coach, … [Read more...] about They don’t seek perfection, they deliver it

October 30, 2011 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Eileen Gutierrez |Staff Writer| Megan Johnson came to California from Arizona to be a part of a winning team. In the past four seasons, she has not only been a part of just that, but has played a monumental role in the successful volleyball program at CSUSB as well. Last year, Johnson ended her season by finishing in second place in the CCAA in hitting percentage with a percentage of .355. She also had 185 kills, 383 attacks, and only 49 errors. “Megan’s had a great career here all three years,” said Kim Cherniss, head volleyball coach at CSUSB. Johnson came to CSUSB to play volleyball after attending a team camp. “I fell in love with the coaching staff and the girls. I … [Read more...] about Johnson drawn to winnding tradition

By Brittany Filippini |Staff Writer| Samantha Middleborn, started her volleyball career late, but has blossomed into an outstanding player anyway. Middleborn did not begin her volleyball career until her sophomore year in high school. Her parents never really pushed her to play sports but they were supportive when she decided to get involved with volleyball. “I never played sports until high school and that was all on my own,” said Middleborn. She immediately fell in love with the sport. Even though her volleyball career did not start until she was in high school, she has made quite a name for herself.
