The Coussoulis Arena, home to Coyote basketball and volleyball, was named after the parents of Nicholas Coussoulis, a generous benefactor when it first opened back in '95. Being a firm believer in education and helping athletes achieve their dreams were beliefs he carried on throughout his time here and after graduation. Coussoulis graduated in 1975, receiving a bachelor's degree in geography. He then went on to run a successful real estate company that's responsible for many projects in So-Cal. Student soldier dies in small-arms fire
By Alejandra Arana |Staff Writer| CSUSB lost a student soldier May 11 in Afghanistan during a small arms fire fight. Lt. Alejo Thompson came to CSUSB in 2010 to become a U.S. Army Officer and continue his service to this country. Lt. Thompson was a part of the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Coyote Battalion program until he graduated in 2010 and moved out of state. The official released statement read “1st Lt. Alejo R. Thompson, 30, of Yuma, Ariz., died May 11 in Bagram, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. by Stephanie Barrera | Staff Writer | CSUSB was placed in the top 15 percent of “Military Friendly” schools out of 7,000 U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools according to G.I. Jobs Magazine for the second year in a row. The magazine conducted a nationwide survey that helped determine which of the 7,000 schools offered the best education for military members, veterans and their spouses. CSUSB made the vetted list of 1,000 schools that represent the top 15 percent nationwide that the magazine yearly publishes. According to G.I.
