Valentine’s Day survival guide

February 9, 2016 by Archived posts 41 Comments

By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| Valentines Day is right around the corner and do you know what that means? Bingo—you guessed it: first dates, roses, chocolates, teddy bears, and potential new relationships. Ahhh, the romanticism. Or it can be completely opposite: single, stuffing your face with chocolate ice cream, watching reruns of "Friends," and wiping your runny nose on your cat. Though the second scenario sounds quite tempting, you will not spend Valentine's Day alone. The ratio of single men in their 20's to single women in their 20's is 1.2 to 1 according to the website Statistic Brain Research Institute. You will not be part of either of those ratios. Having a … [Read more...] about Valentine’s Day survival guide

That Awkward Moment Movie Review

February 9, 2014 by Archived posts 144 Comments

By Ofelia Fuentes |A&E Assistant Editor| That Awkward Moment when you actually know pretty much what to expect. The film was extremely predictable, with some small twists and turns. The movie had some obviously expected scenes with vulgar humor but the unexpected small parts where the audience gets to peek into the emotional side of the characters are what made the movie worth watching. That Awkward Moment is a romantic comedy written and directed by Tom Gormican and developed by What If It Barks Films. The film, formally known as Are We Officially Dating? was featured in 2010’s Hollywood Black List as one of the top best un-produced screenplays. The main cast for the … [Read more...] about That Awkward Moment Movie Review

By Marie Fernandes |Staff Writer| You can still find a way to enjoy Valentine’s Day even if you are not in a relationship. Societal pressure to declare that you have a valentine is inevitable. There is no need to find a valentine everyone has someone even if it is not their significant other. Its your perspective on the holiday that determines the outcome of the day. Remember this is the day for celebration of all forms of love. “I love Valentine’s Day because everyone gets to celebrate love together on one day,” said student Emily Anderson. I think that it is the perfect holiday because it is in our human nature to love and be loved. I believe that people are not … [Read more...] about Celebrate all types of love on Valentine’s Day

Keep your pink parts in the dark

January 31, 2014 by Archived posts 45 Comments

By Glynn Guerra |Staff Writer| “Sex sells” is not only a business strategy, but something that our society has come to know and live by. It almost feels as if our society revolves around sex when we see it in everything from movies to music. Recently, “sexting” has become more popular among social media. According to WebMd, sexting is the sending of sexually explicit messages or images via cell phone texts. For many, sexting is meant to be a private act of intimacy between two people. What people don’t realize is that they face the danger of these images or messages ending up in the hands of the wrong people. Celebrating V-day with your sweetie

February 12, 2012 by Archived posts 124 Comments

By Marina Rangel |Staff Writer| Valentine’s Day is here, and for nearly a month we’ve all walked through the stores past the aisles splattered with pink and red, pondering if you’ll have a valentine, what your valentine will get you or what you should get them. But what can one say about a holiday that is celebrated by many and hated by some? The answer is simple. You can say a lot. Valentine’s Day means different things to different people. Hopeless romantics like myself value it and yet, there are many couples who choose not to think much of it. “It’s something where guys get to be really creative once a year for their girls,” said student Lwin Oo. Of course, ladies don’t … [Read more...] about Celebrating V-day with your sweetie
