By Veronica Vicente |Arts & Entertainment Editor| The San Manuel Indian Bingo Casino (San Manuel Casino) had gamblers and audience members on their feet as tribute band Motley 2 took the stage on Jan. 30.   Motley 2 is the internationally-touring tribute to Motley Crue, that captures the entire look, charisma and sound that Motley Crue fans know and love.   Motley 2 went on stage at 7 p.m. and commenced the second part of their performance at 9 p.m. The band performed in the second floor of the casino inside of the rock and roll themed restaurant called Rock and Brews.   Among walking into the restaurant, there were several people ordering appetizers and drinks anticipating the … [Read more...] about Motley 2 takes fans into wild side

Saturation Fest..Back to the Grind supports local artists

May 31, 2015 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Jose Alvarez  |Staff Writer| The sign reads Back to the Grind a place for all to come together, to leave all labels outside. Stepping into Back to the Grind, I found myself trying to wiggle into the crowd and unfortunately missing out on the strong aroma of coffee because I was sick. When I finally managed to take a seat, the band Gemini Fiction took the stage. Although there was another band downstairs, I did not find out until several bands had played. You can enjoy the show from either downstairs or upstairs where framed art pieces are displayed all over the walls and some even hang from the ceiling. The signs and artwork did a great job in adding to the presence and … [Read more...] about Saturation Fest..Back to the Grind supports local artists

Coachella the best decision

May 7, 2015 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Itzayana Jimenez |Staff Writer| On May 16, 2014, I made one of the greatest decisions: I bought my Coachella weekend one ticket. Coachella is Southern California’s biggest annual music festival. It is a three-day festival located in the Mojave desert known for having a large variety of both mainstream and indie artists, hipsters with over-priced clothes, and an enormous amount of celebrity attendees. A few of the fashion trends at Coachella this year were floppy sun hats, bikini tops, cut-off shorts, and Bohemian dresses. Coachella 2015 was my first time attending the festival and it exceeded any of my expectations. To start off, as I was driving into the festival‘s … [Read more...] about Coachella the best decision

Festivals season approaches

January 17, 2015 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| With big events coming in the near future, it’s time for Coyotes to get into the music mood. Coachella, Stagecoach, Beyond Wonderland, Crush, and Epicenter are happening at local Southern California venues. Music festivals like these are the perfect place for students to unwind from the building stress of schoolwork and essays. “I go to festivals for the experience and the positive vibes,” said Ayde Rico. There’s nothing quite like meeting up with your friends, dressing up in your favorite festival gear and dancing the night away to the music of your favorite artists alongside thousands of other fans who are there for the love of music.” The … [Read more...] about Festivals season approaches

Brick + Mortar show their world via Bangs

November 22, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Wendy Martinez |Staff Writer| Brick + Mortar are on the path to big things in this tough music industry and are worthy for CSUSB students to listen to and watch. Band members Brandon Asraf and John Tacon, first began playing together when they were in middle school, dreaming of making it big in the music industry. Their latest album, “Bangs”, consists of seven songs and was released on July 30, 2014. Originally called Black Rhythm, they decided to undergo a name change in 2008, reappearing as Brick + Mortar. “Best described as controlled chaos, the band combines choppy rhythms, smooth bass lines, tempestuous drumming and honest lyrics...,” according to their official … [Read more...] about Brick + Mortar show their world via Bangs

Foxygen ‘s new album entices with soothing beats

October 25, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Ezequiel Ramos |Staff Writer| Foxygen released their new album …And Star Power on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Foxygen is an American Indie rock band that originated in Westlake Village, California in 2005. This Indie rock band consists of guitarist and keyboardist Jonathan Rado, vocalist Sam France and drummer Shaun Fleming. During their youth, they spent their days performing at school and any other place they could land a gig. They once performed at "Whisky A Go Go," a popular venue in Los Angeles. Although Indie rock isn't my cup of tea, they did have two tracks that instantly caught my attention. "How Can You Really" is one of the songs that caught my attention because of its … [Read more...] about Foxygen ‘s new album entices with soothing beats

Morrissey: I’ll rest when I’m dead

October 18, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Dalal Museitef  |Staff Writer| Despite his awful cancer scare, Morrissey of The Smiths continues to fill the iPods of diehard 1980’s Rock n’ Roll fanatics. “If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t...I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do...I’m not going to worry about that. I’ll rest when I’m dead,” lead vocalist, Steven Morrissey courageously states in an interview with El Mundo. His achievements have earned him the title of the second greatest living British icon by BBC’s Culture Show. Devotees of The Smiths were broken when the gone-so-soon band split up after seven years, and releasing only four albums. Within eight months, Morrissey was … [Read more...] about Morrissey: I’ll rest when I’m dead

New Beat Fund back in the Inland Empire

October 3, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Managing Editor| New Beat Fund came back and had another epic performance on Saturday, Sept. 27. It was great catching up with band mates Paul and Jeff Laliberte, Michael Johnson and Shelby Archer since our first interview in May.  Their last performance in the Inland Empire was at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). This time they performed for students at CSUSB and it was better than the last. The venue was smaller and less crowded, which allowed for the audience to have plenty of space to dance and get into the performance. The performance mesmerized me the entire time. As they played I saw how much they enjoyed being on stage. And how … [Read more...] about New Beat Fund back in the Inland Empire

Chronicle news briefs

January 24, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Daniel DeMarco |Staff Writer| Pig virus continues to spread across U.S. (Jan. 18) A deadly pig virus has reportedly spread to Wyoming and California, bringing the total number of states affected to 22 since it surfaced in the country last April. The virus is not harmful to humans, but is having a heavy effect on the pork industry where numbers are estimated to be in the millions of pigs lost to the virus. Student Christian Barker said, “I think that says something about our food industry when every year there’s some crazy new virus killing all the animals.” Mystery rock recently found on Mars (Jan. 20) As part of an exploration mission, a rover on Mars discovered a … [Read more...] about Chronicle news briefs
