Secretary of the Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch awaits confirmation

By Jarrod Walley |Staff Writer| Judge Neil Gorsuch has been selected by President Donald Trump as a nominee to become the Secretary of the Supreme Court. On Tuesday Jan. 31, President Trump selected Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado to fill the Secretary of the Supreme Court position that has been vacant after the passing of Judge Antonin Scalia in early 2016. Compared to some of President Trump’s other nominees, Gorsuch was well received and respected by both parties. However, his nomination is under speculation from the Democratic side. Betsy DeVos awaits Senate Confirmation

By Jarrod Walley |Staff Writer| Betsy DeVos awaits official confirmation on Monday, Feb 6. from the Senate for the position of Secretary of Education after the Senate Committee voted her through. The voting for DeVos’ confirmation in the Senate Committee was broadcast live through the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN). It took place Tuesday, Jan. 31, after an introduction and opening statement from the chairman of the committee, Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander. Each senator in the committee cast his or her vote for DeVos. The results were 12 votes in favor and 11 votes against. Chairman Alexander had the deciding vote to put DeVos through. According to Real Clear Politics, Hillary Clinton has an average unfavorable rating of 53.9 percent while Donald Trump has an average unfavorable rating of 58 percent based on eight different polls. On average 41 percent of registered voters will vote for Clinton while 37 percent are going to vote for Trump. This comes shortly after transitioning from male to female last year. Unfortunately, these ideas have not resonated well with LGBT rights advocates. Climate change is no longer disputed in the scientific community and there is a general consensus that climate change is happening. The National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), among other major scientific bodies, have all announced their assurance that climate change is happening with a plethora of evidence to back their findings. Presidential candidate proposes to cease federal aid

by Veronica Natal | Staff Writer| Ron Paul, Republican contender for the 2012 presidential candidacy, announced Oct. 23 he would end all federal student loans if he were elected, according to the California State University’s (CSU) web site. Two days after Paul’s announcement, President Barrack Obama’s administration announced plans to try to expand a government program that will help the 1.2 million borrowers reduce their payments and consolidate their student debt, as reported in the LA Times. Paul said his reason for his plan is because the nation’s student loan debt is approaching $1 trillion dollars.
