Have a problem? Better Call Saul

February 14, 2015 by Archived posts 1,213 Comments

By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| “Better Call Saul” is a dark and zany spin-off that has potential to spring out from the massive shadow cast by its predecessor, “Breaking Bad”. The 6.9 million viewers that tuned in to watch Saul’s launch made it the best series premiere in cable television history within the 18-49 year old adult demographic. “At first, I was iffy about yet another television spin-off, but after the first two episodes of “Better Call Saul,” I’ve been hooked”, said CSUSB Junior Dyanna Chavez. With the creator of this show, Vince Gilligan, having created the behemoth that was “Breaking Bad,” pressure has been put on him to bring the viewers a show that is … [Read more...] about Have a problem? White Denim pours a cup of “Corsicana Lemonade”

November 1, 2013 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Alyssa Gradias |Staff Writer| White Denim released their fifth studio album, Corsicana Lemonade, Oct. 29. They are a four-piece, indie-rock band with a variety of music influences from blues, psychedelic rock, punk rock and soul. The band formed in 2005 and have been banging out EPs and full albums ever since. Corsicana Lemonade focuses on the aspect of growing older yet still trying to figure things out, reflecting the just-turned thirty year olds' outlook on life and where it is going. For example, lead James Petralli sings, "I know you think that it’s easy to change, but it’s a symptom of age,” reflecting their coming-of-age stage. This album is a bit different from … [Read more...] about White Denim pours a cup of “Corsicana Lemonade”

Vu’s 120 goals ties water polo record

May 20, 2012 by Archived posts

By Amy Cutillo |Staff Writer| Misty Vu is not only owning the water here at CSUSB but she is also leading herself into a life filled with much success. Vu is a utility player for the Coyote water polo team. Being a utility player requires that you can play several positions competently, and that is more than likely the reason Vu is so skilled at her sport. She has played the field now for three and a half years. Vu began playing water polo eight years ago as a goalie during summer school her freshman year. “After my freshman year in high school, I just loved it. Everyday before practice started I’d have my bag packed already, and wake up an hour early the day of practice,” said … [Read more...] about Vu’s 120 goals ties water polo record

Butler honors father with dedication to softball

May 6, 2012 by Archived posts

By Chelsea Underwood |Staff Writer| Shortstop Britney Butler shattered the softball school record for the most home runs in a single season, blasting 15 this year. Motivated throughout the season from the unfortunate death of her father, Butler has been playing with a big heart. Butler already tied the home run record her freshman year with 14, but now she is in sole possession of the number one spot. She hit her record breaking home run in the last game of the regular season against the Dominguez Hills Toros in the third inning. “It was a really good feeling,” said Butler, “I sprinted around the bases because I was so excited.” Teammates cheered her on while she ran the bases, but … [Read more...] about Butler honors father with dedication to softball

Britney Butler makes history, but CSUSB softball falters against CSU Dominguez Hills

April 29, 2012 by Archived posts

By Chelsea Underwood |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball team struggled at home in their last series of the season on April 20–21, dropping three out of four games against the ninth ranked CSU Dominguez Hills Toros. The ladies struggled with the bats as they struck out 13 times in the 3–0 loss. The Toros took the lead again in the second game, scoring two runs in the second and fourth innings. In the sixth inning, freshman Alyssa Ramos and senior Alex Mitchell both ripped singles to bring the Coyotes’ bats to life. The next hitter, junior infielder Britney Butler, stepped up to the plate and smacked a three–run home run to center field, giving the Coyotes their first lead of the game at … [Read more...] about Britney Butler makes history, but CSUSB softball falters against CSU Dominguez Hills
