The Q2S change is happening in less than six months, and it can be intimidating if you don’t have the correct information. Students worry about not being able to finish on time or taking classes that they shouldn’t need to. Departments set up their own criteria, but as far as general education goes, everyone will have to follow the same requirements. In Fall 2020, CSUSB will be converting to the semester system, making the leap from the current quarter system. Currently, the Pfau library book reserves are set up to work for students in the quarter system. However, an emerging question right now is how the leap to the semester system will affect permission for course reserves in the library. The library course reserve will have to change how they catalog the current books to set up for the conversion. With preparations being made for upcoming transitions from quarter to semester system for both San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses, students remain fervent. Many students have been informed about this upcoming transition for a little over two years at both campuses. Some students are excited and thrilled about the fast-approaching transition this fall while others are disappointed about the systems being changed because of added weeks to the semester system. Recently, CSUSB has announced that, in Fall 2020, the campus will be converting from a quarter system to a semester system, and some of the students who will be affected by the conversion gave us their thoughts. “I think it’ll mess up people who are going to be in the middle of the conversion. I’m from a semester system in community college, and now I’m getting used to the quarter, but then I’ll have to go back to semester. I think it’ll definitely get confusing.
