Between the four, and however many years it actually took to walk across that stage, displays a rite of passage into the start of new beginnings. I, fortunately started my new beginnings prior to walking across the big stage and receiving my degree in Communication Studies and Public Relations. Exactly a year before my huge milestone, I interned with an Entertainment Public Relations firm based in Los Angeles. I grew to learn the basics of Public Relations in the Hollywood realm. I shadowed my boss, a full-time publicist and CEO of her firm. I had come a long way since my freshman … [Read more...] about Alumni and future publicist
A coyote’s pathway to sucess
By Marissa Mooney |A&E Editor| Whether it is paid or unpaid, that perfect internship might set you apart and get your foot in the door with a potential employer. This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at an Entertainment Public Relations firm in Los Angeles. All of last spring quarter I researched internships that would fit perfectly in my career path. I browsed through internqueen.com and anything Google could offer me. I wanted the opportunity to “test drive” a career (Would I be happier in public relations or marketing?). I took the initiative and interviewed with many potential Entertainment PR firms in Los Angeles. Nothing looked promising as many … [Read more...] about A coyote’s pathway to sucess

Hernan Calderon: 6 years waiting
By Hernan Calderon |Coyote Contributor| I entered CSUSB in the fall of 2006 with no clue about what I wanted to study, but I am truly happy how everything turned out. I only had one clue, I wanted to be able to use my imagination to further my activities. One spring quarter, I can confidently say that I experienced a textbook description of a burnout which lead me to retreat from communication studies altogether for two consecutive quarters. I changed my major a total of five times, the last change was in my concentration from mass communications to public relations. Once regaining my composure, I had a new outlook in life and a better idea of how precise public relations can … [Read more...] about Hernan Calderon: 6 years waiting
