Opinion: Thoughts on toxic masculinity

November 3, 2020 by Colin Pedersen Leave a Comment

The notion of toxic masculinity is gaining more prominence these days and I think it often gets misconstrued as some sort of attack on men. I used to see it this way, but I feel like I can help bridge the gap that might exist for those who are still opposed to the existence of the term. The first point I wish to touch on is that we first have to stop solely associating the concept of masculinity with men because any individual can exhibit masculine behavior or traits even if it is more common among men for biological reasons. However, the reason this point is so important is because it allows us to realize that toxic masculinity can be practiced by anyone, although it is predominantly a … [Read more...] about Opinion: Thoughts on toxic masculinity

Honesty has been killed

October 24, 2015 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Erendy Torres | Staff Writer | Honesty is dead. It's not valued anymore. We are hypocrites when we say we value honesty and are bigger hypocrites when we say we don't lie. We are selfish to expect honesty from others, normally don't think twice about lying. We hide the truth from others because we find it convenient. However, after every lie told, we confuse ourselves trying to remember what versions of "the truth" we told to those we've interacted with. "[And] that's the point. We are all liars, and we all make excuses for our ignorance of the unconscious," stated licensed California psychologist Dr. Raymond Lloyd Richmond. Even important people that are considered … [Read more...] about Honesty has been killed

Higher income opportunities

April 18, 2014 by Loydie Burmah Leave a Comment

By Loydie Burmah |Staff Writer| There are several majors here at CSUSB that seem to be popular, but most of them do not gather much monetary success. Popular Graduate Majors include public administration, social work, and special education. “Our data is pulled from applications, enrollments, grade reports, etc., which are then provided to our office by Records, … [Read more...] about Higher income opportunities

Prefering better bosses to better pay

November 9, 2012 by Archived posts

Money Hands

By, Julia Matulionis |Staff Writer| A statistical study has shown that workers would prefer better bosses over better pay. A staggering statistic was released last month after a survey of Americans was performed by workplace psychologist Michelle McQuaid who stated, “65 percent say a better boss would make them happy while 35 percent choose a pay raise.” The majority of employees surveyed stated they were unhappy with their bosses attitudes and ways of conducting business and prefer a better boss to better pay. Leaders in the workplace have a lot on their shoulders: managing a team, concerns over the bottom line, and worrying about their higher-ups. But does this amounting pressure … [Read more...] about Prefering better bosses to better pay
