California election results

November 7, 2018 by Dusty Alexander 659 Comments

On November 6, Californians came out to vote, and with 100 percent of precincts reporting, the results are in with democrats winning almost every single position. Democratic candidate Gavin Newsom, with almost 60 percent of the vote, soundly beat his Republican opponent John H. Cox in the race for the governor. In the race for lieutenant governor, Eleni Kounalakis beat her fellow Democratic candidate Ed Hernandez. In the US Senate election, incumbent Diane Feinstein beat the challenging Democrat Kevin De Leon. For propositions, the gas tax was voted to stay in place with prop 6 failing to pass.  The controversial gas tax will still in place because of this, but money will … [Read more...] about California election results

Governor Brown Pushes For Prop. 30

November 4, 2012 by Archived posts

By Brenda Acuna |Staff Writer| Nov. 6 marks a historic election for college students across California as they hit voting booths and determine the fate of public universities’ economic situation. In a recent conference call with CSU newspapers, Gov. Brown urged all college students to vote “yes” on Proposition 30 if they did not want their tuition to increase again. During the 25-minute call, the Governor told the CSU newspapers that his tax measure comes down to a simple choice for voters: either provide funding for schools or allow additional education cuts that will hike up college tuition. Brown warned that if Proposition 30 fails, $1 billion would be cut from higher … [Read more...] about Governor Brown Pushes For Prop. 30

It gives $100 million to law enforcement agencies to investigate homicide and rape cases, according to the California Secretary of State’s Office. Currently, California’s constitution allows for the sentence of death for particular crimes such as murder, yet death is rarely administered by the state of California due to the long appeal ridden legal process death-row inmates are given. People in favor of Proposition 34 say that it’s more than a moral proposition, it’s a financial issue as well. “It … [Read more...] about Voters decide between death penalty and life in prison for inmates

New cigarette tax will not benefit California’s economy

May 6, 2012 by Archived posts

By Sara Nydam |Staff Writer| The state of California is considering a new proposition that will spend your tax dollars in a foolish way. Proposition 29 will tax each individual pack of cigarettes an extra dollar to create a program that will duplicate  that is already under way. I do not believe we need to vote for this bill because spending money that Californians don’t have will certainly not fix our economic problems. I feel it is ludicrous to assume that the state of California should, according to NoOn29.com, “start a new billion-dollar spending program when we have a $10  billion plus budget deficit and can’t pay for critically-needed existing programs like education and … [Read more...] about New cigarette tax will not benefit California’s economy
