Pick it, Tax it, Pack it

November 7, 2016 by Saeed Villanueva Leave a Comment

By Saeed Villanueva |Staff Writer| Pot farmers are divided over the possible legalization of marijuana in California. On Nov. 8 people can vote for Proposition 64 which would legalize marijuana use in California and allow the state to give licenses to those who grow and sell cannabis. Prop. 64 would allow those who are at least 21 years old to possess, transfer, and sell up to an ounce of marijuana for recreational use and would allow Californians to grow up to six plants. However, the measure would enforce a 15 percent tax on the retail sales of the product which has led to indifferent feelings about the initiative from farmers in Northern California’s pot growing … [Read more...] about Pick it, Tax it, Pack it

CA should legalize marijuana too

November 16, 2012 by Archived posts

By Stephanie Madrigal |Staff Writer| I think there are four reasons California should legalize recreational use of marijuana. First, over half of the people I met in high school and college have a medical marijuana card. I have asked them how they got it and it seems it is as easy as just saying you have insomnia. With so many people obtaining a medical marijuana card I believe California should make smoking weed legal. “Legalizing and regulating marijuana in California would benefit the state,” said a CSUSB student who asked to remain anonymous. Secondly, I think marijuana should be legalized because it will benefit the economy. Today, people pay for marijuana as well as food and … [Read more...] about CA should legalize marijuana too

by Veranica Natal | Chronicle Photo The federal Government is targeting some of California’s medical marijuana dispensaries by claiming that some operations are “fronts for illegal drug dealing” which does not comply with state law, according to USA Today. A 45-day notice has been given to several dispensaries ordering them to close or be faced with criminal charges. However, in the Central District of California (CDCA) where San Bernardino is located, there have only been 14-day notices given out, according to Thom Mrozek, public affairs officer at the U.S.  Attorney’s office. USA Today states that federal prosecutors at the news conference revealed the commercial marijuana … [Read more...] about Feds crack down on California pot dispensaries
