By Steffanie Martinez |Staff Writer| The fact the gender wage gap is still an ongoing issue is a sad reality of 2016. On average, women not only earn less than men but they also must work longer for the same amount of pay. Women are still earning 79 cents to the dollar in comparison to men, according to the National Partnership for Women & Families. More specifically, women of color earn even less; they earn 55-to-64 cents to the dollar white men get paid. “Women are not getting the fair shot that we believe every single American deserves,” stated President Barack Obama on the seventh anniversary of signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The Fair Pay Act ensures that … [Read more...] about Time to shrink the gender wage gap

Obama enforces legal policy to close gender wage gap
By Koby Heramil |Editor-in-chief| It’s ridiculous that working females are still being paid less than their male counterparts. President Barack Obama along with Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers motioned for Congress to discuss issues that matter to women. The president’s agenda seeks to close the gender wage gap. I agree with President Obama when he stated in his weekly address, “That’s wrong. In 2014, it’s an embarrassment. Women deserve equal pay for equal work.” One way Obama is ensuring that women are paid fairly is through an executive order that prohibits employers from punishing their employees from discussing wages in public. Employees already have … [Read more...] about Obama enforces legal policy to close gender wage gap

As it stands now, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. If the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013 were to pass, it would be the first significant increase the country has seen on Federal minimum wage in more than four years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division chart. The rise in wages is claimed to be needed because of inflation, in which President Barack Obama explained in his state of the Union Address where he originally proposed an increase to $9. The Federal minimum wage raise proposal has followed shortly … [Read more...] about New wage boost should help students

Leaders in the workplace have a lot on their shoulders: managing a team, concerns over the bottom line, and worrying about their higher-ups. But does this amounting pressure … [Read more...] about Prefering better bosses to better pay

According to the National Center for State Courts, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye currently earns $228,856. This means that CSU presidents could earn up to $343,269. SB 755 would require that the CSU Board of Trustees discuss tuition or salary increases in an open session. It also would stop pay increases or bonuses to campus presidents if student tuition was raised in the last three years.
