Spook month, spooky movies, spooky books

October 17, 2017 by Yesica Gonzalez Leave a Comment

With Halloween just around the corner, some students like to keep themselves on edge by either watching spooky films or reading horror novels. Horror movies have been around since the days of silent film, and have made their way through every decade. From the classics to modern times, each decade has brought out a different side of dreadfulness. Fourth year student, Estefania Pantoja, prefers to watch modern films that keep her on her toes. “I prefer modern ones. The special effects are more up-to-date and seem more realistic than they were back then,” shared Pantoja. There is a diverse collection of different types of horror flicks that anyone can choose to watch. Some … [Read more...] about Spook month, spooky movies, spooky books

By Veronica Vicente |Staff Writer| On Oct. 21 the Riverside coffee shop, Back To the Grind, held its monthly poetry slam competition, called "Floasis." Upon arriving at about 7 p.m., the coffee shop's first floor was full of people who appeared to be studying or on the couch socializing with their friends. I ordered a caramel Frappuccino, although it was not on the menu, the barista happily created the drink I asked for . As the barista prepared drinks for the customers, the room was filled with the coffee aroma. The cover charge was $7 dollars and included a raffle ticket to be entered in a drawing to win prizes. "Floasis" started an hour late, at 9 p.m., the host Tiana … [Read more...] about Floasis at Back to the Grind

The formula to a bloody good horror movie

October 25, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Cesar Perez |Staff Writer| Horror movies, whether you love them or hate them, are bound to give you a good scare and have you terrorized. But what exactly makes a great horror movie? I believe a groundbreaking horror movie is more than just providing a few cheap jump scares, it has to rattle, shake, and leave you mesmerized till the very end. Alfred Hitchcock is one of the biggest influential film directors, leaving a legacy with his most famous films, "The Birds" and "Psycho," which have influenced movies like Brian De Palma's "Carrie" and John Carpenter's "Halloween." CSUSB Professor Charles Metts stated in an email interview, "If the horror director has studied … [Read more...] about The formula to a bloody good horror movie

October 19, 2013 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Dawnika Lopez |Staff Writer| Everything was fine until they opened their mouths, then everything went horrible. We Are Scientists released a new EP Business Casual on the Oct. 15, three years after their last album; sort of kept their indie rock and pop sound but added a whole new shift in dynamics within their music. We Are Scientists comprise of Keith Murray on guitar and lead vocals, along with Chris Cain on bass guitar and backing vocals. Their music generates electric rock instrumentation with an inspiration of 80s rock synth, with vocal harmonies and rhythmic syncopation. The dynamic duo, Murray and Cain has been busy this last year creating four new tracks and including … [Read more...] about We Are Scientist releases a new EP

October 11, 2013 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Mary Moreno |Staff Writer| Television enthusiasts rejoice over the ability to stream their shows from network websites, Netflix and YouTube. A recent study by Neilson Research found that 37 percent of U.S. households watch television online That can explain the spontaneous gasps or laughs coming from all those students during their break in between classes. “I mostly watch Korean dramas online,” said Vanessa Robles “My favorite show is Coffee Prince, it was my very first Korean drama and is amazing. The whole plot line, everything just pulls you into the story and you begin to feel what the characters feel.” Chris Burns has been interested in two new shows released … [Read more...] about Coyotes’ favorite “must watch” shows

Firemen stand up for the cause

October 18, 2012 by Archived posts

By Jocelyn Colbert |Staff Writer| Welcome to the month of pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease and people are showing their support nationwide. People can be seen sporting pink everywhere this month. Even the National Football League players are wearing pink shoes, headbands, wristbands and pink patches on their jerseys to show support. Locally, the Redlands Fire Department is happily showing their support.  Redlands firefighters have swapped their blue t-shirts for pink ones during the month of October in recognition of BCAM. I made my way to the city of Redlands to meet and greet the firefighters of … [Read more...] about Firemen stand up for the cause
