Even if you haven’t had any work experience yet, you should begin building your professional network. Depending on where you want to go in your career, you can connect with people who are doing what you want to do. You can connect with your peers from your classes in your major, so you can stay connected after you graduate. You can also follow companies you’re interested in working at. In addition to adding any work experience you may have that you want to include in your LinkedIn profile, and your education, these are some important things to know and think about when creating your LinkedIn profile. Professional Photo Do not use a silly photo of yourself for your LinkedIn account. … [Read more...] about Advice: How to maximize your LinkedIn experience

February 29, 2016 by Mike Isberto Leave a Comment

By Michael Isberto |Staff Writer| Networking on campus to build relationships that will help your career is more important than most students realize. Students try to get in and out of school as fast as they can but they do not take advantage of university resources and the connections they can make on campus. The CSUSB Career Center is one of those resources students should take advantage of before they graduate or else they could be holding a degree realizing they have nowhere to go. "The mission of the Career Center is to support the career readiness of all students and alumni by providing advising, assessment, workshops, career events, employer networking opportunities, … [Read more...] about Networking is advantageous for students

By Erica Wong |Staff Writer| Coyote Music Society (CMS) is a club on campus designed to help musicians improve as artists. Students in an ensemble, who are majoring or minoring in music, are automatically part of CMS. However, the club is open to anyone interested in music, even if you don’t play an instrument. If you have the desire to experience performances or interact directly with the performers, the club is open to you, according to club president Cory Peters. The club aims to provide services and resources for its members, keeping them informed of future opportunities for musicians. CMS provides music tutoring for members who have the desire to read music or learn more … [Read more...] about Helping musicians become greater artists

Protect your privacy on social media

February 21, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Over-using social media sites and posting too much information can pose a threat to your safety. A study conducted in 2010 shows that 72 percent of college students have a social media account. This number has more than likely increased within the last four years. There are a variety of perks and benefits that come with joining a social network. Not only do we get information a lot faster but we also strengthen associations and communication with students, coworkers, and family. “It is a great way to stay informed,” said student Onalisa Smith. “Social media can enhance connections, but there is a point where there are privacy violations, in … [Read more...] about Protect your privacy on social media

Digital Media Communication club recognizes students and staff for their achievements

May 24, 2013 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer There really is meaning to the phrase “CSUSB, come here, go anywhere.” Attending the Spring Into Media: Pros and Conversation Symposium on May 23 opened my eyes even more to what going to college is all about. This event was put together by the communications department and the Digital Media Communications Club, as a way to recognize students and staff for their achievements and allow students to hear from groups of panels within public relations, human communication and mass media. “When you showcase your achievements it’s not as effective if you’re just showing it to each other,” said Michael Salvador chairman of CSUSB’s communication department, “so … [Read more...] about Digital Media Communication club recognizes students and staff for their achievements
