May 27, 2020 by Brandon Delatorre 106 Comments

CSUSB's 2020 Spring musical “Once Upon A Mattress" is in a state of limbo on whether or not the live performance will take place on campus. The hard-working cast and crew of the musical are pressing on forward given the current pandemic crisis. They hope to perform an actual live show during the Fall semester 2020, with a hint of the possibility of a cancellation again. Thomas Provenzano, the director of the spring musical, said, "We are open to many ideas -- but nothing is certain." There is discussion about how and what can be done concerning the presentation of the musical given the unknown nature of the pandemic timeline. Approximately a year of planning has gone into the … [Read more...] about Will the show still go on?

The World Goes’ Round

May 22, 2017 by Yesica Gonzalez 6 Comments

By Yesica Gonzalez I Staff Writer I When you go around the world, you want to do it without a nail going through your foot. “Two assistant stage managers sweep the stage every night before every rehearsal so there’s no nails or anything left on the stage, because we rehearse in the same space that we’re building,” remarked Director and Professor Kathryn Ervin. The World Goes ‘Round musical is coming to campus but before opening day, there is much going on behind the curtains. Rehearsals started in the beginning of the quarter in the Barnes Theater, located at the Performing Arts building. Addams Family spooks the stage

February 27, 2015 by Archived posts 6 Comments

By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| The mysterious and spooky Addams Family (Snap, Snap!) came to life in the timeless, Old Town Temecula. When I was told that I would be traveling to Temecula to see an Addams Family Musical, I was apprehensive to the idea considering that musicals have never been my thing and I had never heard of Old Town Temecula, all I could think about were the million other things I could be doing with my Friday night. My mood quickly changed as I made my way into Old Town’s, Front Street which was alive with the lights and music of the numerous restaurants and cantinas. I wobbled my way towards the Old Town Community Theater, when I finally arrived I found … [Read more...] about Addams Family spooks the stage

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| While at CSUSB there are seven things I dare you try. Being involved and finding some escape from our chaotic and busy schedules is crucial. The good thing is that we are a part of a very active campus looking for proactive people to take part in activities. “Keep yourself busy and have fun while you’re here,” said student Kendall Smith. “Give everything your all.” There is always something happening on campus at different times and days of the week to accommodate students’ schedules. Here are a few things I recommend you try doing while on campus. 1) Recreational Center If you need to relieve some stress and want to stay fit, visiting our … [Read more...] about Try something new: Seven things you must before you graduate

“We did it for you”empowers CSUSB women

March 18, 2012 by Archived posts 94 Comments

By Emerald Collins |Staff Writer| Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the “Star Spangled Banner” at the sight of the American flag still standing, but if it were not for the woman who spent a considerable amount of time sowing that flag, Scott’s inspiration would have never manifested. CSUSB’s Women Resource Center (WRC) has brought the play “We Did It For You: Women’s Journey Through History” written by Thea Iberal, to our campus. The production educates the audience on women's rights and suffrage throughout U.S. History. “The musical is a call to action through a tour of the past, a powerful vehicle for creating a sense of empowerment in girls and women. “Joyful Noise” is fun but flawed

January 22, 2012 by Archived posts 22 Comments

By Justin Mathew Dennis |Staff Writer| “Joyful Noise” is a feel-good, inspirational musical comedy that can make you sing and cry, but is not without it's flaws. The movie was a hit with the viewers on moviefone.com, but a flop with critics. With strong female leads such as Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, how could the film go wrong? The acting is great, the jokes are funny and the drama is touching, but the movie is long with useless subplots and excessive foul language. The small town of Pacashau, Ga. is counting on the Divinity Church Choir to win the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir is known for their beautiful harmonies and traditional style, but tension between … [Read more...] about “Joyful Noise” is fun but flawed
