“Sonic the Hedgehog” movie review

February 26, 2020 by Johnny D Leave a Comment

Video game movies have a bad reputation in the movie industry. Critics say that these movies do not use the source material, or that they only exist for the paychecks. However they need just as much care and love as other films to be able to convey their stories to audiences. As for Sonic the Hedgehog, it was a roller coaster. The first trailer was a disaster, and the company had to delay the film to fix the main character’s design. On February 14, the film was finally released and, after watching the movie, I have to say that the film is unexpectedly good after the backlash from the first trailer. This film has a good story that people can follow. Sonic was sent to Earth and goes … [Read more...] about “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie review

According to the storyline, after one watches a cursed VHS tape, they have seven days left to live until the ghost girl Samara comes and takes their life. The only way to avoid the fate of the seven day time limit is to make a copy of the film and … [Read more...] about Old VHS curse goes viral

Love is almost found again in “The Longest Ride”

May 17, 2015 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Tiffany Moyes |Staff Writer| Many filmgoers thought the glory days of movies based on Nicholas Sparks books were over, until now. “The Longest Ride” follows the love story of Sophia (Britt Robertson) and Luke (Scott Eastwood), two young kids from North Carolina, who met by fate at a rodeo. Their lives would never be the same after saving the life of an elderly man. Their personal struggles and determination place a decent backdrop to the true love story of this film. The latest adaptation of one of the many Sparks novels has no new surprises in what they market, but the true surprise is what they don’t tell you after failing to captivate audiences the last two times … [Read more...] about Love is almost found again in “The Longest Ride”

“Mockingjay” shows more talk and less action

November 29, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Cesar Perez |Staff Writer| "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1," is a decent setup leading up to the grand finale of the Hunger Games franchise. Although the movie was not bad, I definitely believe it is the weakest film in the series. The film is full of political speeches, propaganda commercials, and cities left in ruins. "Mockingjay Part 1" is the much anticipated sequel to "Catching Fire," and debuted in theaters nationwide on Nov. 21 to mixed reviews from critics. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. Moviegoer Eddie Ramirez said, "It was good, but it was not what I was expecting, since the last … [Read more...] about “Mockingjay” shows more talk and less action

Dumbin’ it down

November 22, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Chelsea Faler |Staff Writer| Dumb and Dumber To was finally released on Nov. 14, the sequel to the first Dumb and Dumber that came out 20 years ago. The two dimwits, Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey), reunite at last, two decades later for one last time. This was not a film I was particularly eager to go see; however, I was quite surprised when I found myself laughing and enjoying the movie more than expected. Harry had been visiting Lloyd in a mental hospital for the past twenty years, and after Lloyd gets back to being healthy, they set off on another careless adventure. Harry is in need of a new kidney, and after learning his parents are of no help, he discovers … [Read more...] about Dumbin’ it down

Downey defends his home in “The Judge”

October 18, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Nadia Ahmad |Staff Writer| "The Judge," starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall is a beautifully shot film that will charm you without being cheesy. In this legal drama, heart-throb Downey plays the role of Hank Palmer, an incredibly successful lawyer who only returns home to Indiana after receiving news that his mother has passed away. Hank soon finds out that his bitter father, Judge Joseph, played by the great Duvall, is suspected of murder. Hank decided to defend him.  The two most memorable and pleasing components of the film were the cinematography and music. Though the story takes place in Indiana, the film included incredibly colorful shots of wide, green … [Read more...] about Downey defends his home in “The Judge”
