By Noe Ramos |Staff Writer| Mariachi music filled the Santos Manuel Student Union and caught the attention of several students. The LatinX Center celebrated their grand opening in SU-202, where several speakers and attendees gathered. Speakers included those from student committees to faculty members that had worked on making the center possible, including President Tomás D. Morales. Michael Mejia, a graduate student assistant, stated that the center was created by students, for students. Plans to build a new parking lot, renovation of the Pfau Library, and the expansion of the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) are welcomed by many at CSUSB. With these plans they are also looking for specific additional changes that most consider should be standard. President Morales responds to CSUSB crimes
By Marion Gil |News Editor| In response to the recent rise in crime at CSUSB, President Tomás Morales sent out an e-mail Monday, March 9, detailing how he and the University are dealing with the threat. According to the e-mail, University Police personnel has more than doubled and now patrols 24 hours a day; additional personnel have been brought in from other CSU campuses to supplement our own. Additional police presence has been requested for the neighborhoods surrounding the CSUSB campus. CSUSB graduate student killed by campus police
By Koby Heramil |News Editor| CSUSB graduate student Batholomew Williams was shot and killed by university campus police Saturday Dec. 8, after a call was made about a disturbance. The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at the University Village apartments, where three campus police met Williams in the hallway. It was reported that Williams displayed "superhuman strength" during an ensuing altercation with police. Williams reportedly used the police's own pepper spray against the officers and grabbed for one of their batons. A press release was published Thursday May 10 announcing Morales as president-elect for CSUSB.
