Sexual consent should be taught at all education levels

By Cherae Hunt |Staff Writer| I was raped by my ex-boyfriend two years ago when we were still together. I never felt so used and disgusted with myself in my life, and it still affects me today. I think the importance of sexual consent should be taught nationwide from middle school to undergraduate college students. "Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill into law that makes California the first in the nation to have a clear definition of when people agree to sex. GEAR UP receives financial support

By Jorge Campos |Staff Writer| The U.S. Department of Education awarded funds to the CSUSB GEAR UP program. The grant provides $14.2 million, which will be used for tutoring, mentoring, college visits, and workshops for middle and high school students. The GEAR UP program is also working with the San Bernardino City Unified School District to provide services for eight middle schools and six high schools. GEAR UP has helped low income middle and high school students attend college by providing six-year grants to states and partnerships. By Cheran Dinger |Staff Writer| Reina Cruz, a CSUSB custodian, is trying to raise money to send her two children, Susana and Juan, on “The Annual Student Educational Trip to Washington D.C.” through Caesar E. Chavez Middle School here in San Bernardino. According to the organization behind the excursion, USA Student Travel, young students will see, hear and feel American History in a “hands-on” environment that is sure to enhance their classroom experience. “It would be a great opportunity for my kids to go somewhere they have never been before,” said Cruz.
