The month-long celebration recognizes the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans to the cultural heritage of the United States. Asian-Pacific includes all of the Asian continents and Pacific islands of Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia. President Jimmy Carter signed a Joint Resolution declaring the first ten days of May as Asian-Pacific Heritage Week in 1978. In 1990, President George W. CSUSB and the College of Arts and Letters will hold the second Annual Arts and Music Festival on Friday, May 2. This festival will take place all over the CSUSB campus from 4 to 9 p.m. The festival will feature a wide variety of venders, food trucks, music, dance and art. Different events will take place that cater to a wide range of audiences of all different ages. Coyote volleyball takes Pioneers off the net
By Richard Burrud | Staff Writer | Coyote Women’s Volleyball team is still undefeated in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 9-0 record coming into Saturday’s game against CSU East Bay who is 2-7 in Conference play. The Coyotes and Pioneers played three sets; the Coyotes were too much to handle for the Pioneers winning all three sets. Player of the Week Tori May and sophomore Brenna McIntosh were the standout Coyotes who led the game with 27 combined kills against the Pioneers. Coyotes vs. Food competition
By Kim Dailey |Staff Writer| ASI hosted their third annual Coyote vs. Food competition May 10 in the Santos Manuel Student Union lobby. Students gathered around the table, some waiting to participate and others just waiting to watch. After signing a liability waiver, participants partook in three different rounds of competitive eating. In round one, students had to eat a foot-long “garbage” burrito weighing up to 5 pounds, in 30 minutes or less. There were eleven competitors, 10 men and one woman. Students tried all different ways to defeat the burrito, but the winner, student Alex Weis, had eaten the whole burrito in only 6 minutes. Burlesque workshop sassifies students

The Women’s Resource Center in the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) held a workshop on May 7 that taught students the history and evolution of burlesque dancing as well as choreography typically found in modern performances. “I’ve always liked burlesque. I’ve seen it on TV and I just love the costumes, so joining my friend was fun even though I wasn’t that good at the moves,” said student Carolina Mejia. Students “jump on it” as flash mob breaks loose in SMSU
By Kim Dailey |Staff Writer| CSUSB’s first ever flash mob broke out at noon on Tuesday, May 1 in the Santos Manuel Student Union. The assembly was put together by Michel’le Jones as part of her campaign for the Associated Students Inc. president. Students who were a part of the event were invited through Facebook and by word of mouth from those students who knew about it. The songs that they danced to were “Buzzin” by Mann featuring 50 Cent and “Apache” by The Sugarhill Gang.
