Protect Yourself: Cautionary Tale

May 31, 2017 by Elizabeth Taylor 42 Comments

By Elizabeth Taylor |Staff Writer| With almost a decade gone by and still no changes are being implemented, I feel that it is only necessary that I share with you a story that could change or even possibly save a life. Nothing can prepare oneself for the oncoming of bad news; it’s obvious the news is bad because eyes are overwhelmed with tears on the brink of explosion, the head is low and a weak voice struggling to let out the terror that haunts her. I like to think of myself as a strong woman, someone my kids can look up and be proud to call me their mom; but nothing has ever tested the strength of my will like the day my mom told me she was raped. Shock—How could this of … [Read more...] about Protect Yourself: Cautionary Tale

PAWS calms students for finals

November 30, 2012 by Archived posts

By Marc-Olivier Drouin |Staff Writer| With finals just around the corner, CSUSB students had the chance to release some tension with dog petting and chair massages. On Wednesday Nov. 28, the Student Health Center, in collaboration with the Center for Health Education and Wellness, invited massage therapists and dogs to the Commons. About 10 dogs and their owners were gathered outside the Commons where students were invited to pet away worries and stress by playing with dogs. As strange as it may seem, according to the International Journal of Workplace Health Management, students and employees that have access to a dog are less stressed during the day than those who had … [Read more...] about PAWS calms students for finals

According to Valerie Merrow, Admin Support assistant, the  chair massages are given by the certified “Hands on Medical Massage  School”  therapists  in  Redlands whom are linked with the Wellness 2 U program at the Loma Linda Hospital and now service us here at CSUSB. All of the massage therapists are under a contract with … [Read more...] about CSUSB finds relaxation at The Body Shoppe

Coyotes de-stress before midterms

February 17, 2012 by Archived posts 1,264 Comments

By Marina Rangel |Staff Writer| Three masseurs with their massage chairs set up in the Upper Commons awaited their stressed and overworked clients. The line wrapped around the corner as students anticipated their five-minute FREE massage. In a fast moving world how can we take a second to relax? Even relaxation can seem rushed for students because of their pressed schedules. In an effort to offer a healthy type of relaxation, free promotional massages were given out on Feb. 14 and 15 to promote the opening of CSUSB’s The Body Shop Massage Therapy. “This is my first chair massage and I knew I could use one,” said student Michael Iyaniwura, as he stood in line as for a … [Read more...] about Coyotes de-stress before midterms
