CSUSB ranked best for veterans

By Chelsea Galvez |Staff Writer| Military Times has ranked CSUSB ninth out of 100 on its 2015 list of top-ranking schools for Veterans. Veteran’s Success Center honors 238th Marine Corps birthday

By Donte Medder |Staff Writer| CSUSB celebrated the 238th birthday of the Marine Corps on Nov. 1, where the Veterans Success Center coordinator Marci Daniels and student and Marine Reuben Porales organized an event honoring the Marines Corps. The Marine Corps was established on Nov. 10, 1775 and has since distinguished itself as one of the most prestigious military fighting organizations in modern history. At this time every year, Marines are called together to celebrate the accomplishments of the past as well as honor those who have served in the past. CSUSB ranked no. 1 military friendly campus

By Luz Hernandez |Staff Writer| CSUSB has been ranked number one among all public universities for the support and services it offers to its military personnel and veteran students, according to a survey taken by Military Advanced Education (MAE) 2013 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities. MAE surveys more than 300 U.S. colleges and universities, including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year and two-year colleges in California, in which CSUSB placed sixth overall. Former marine weighs in on women in combat

By James Kohler | Staff Writer | Women can now fight alongside their male counterparts in the United States military. On April 24, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta opened combat positions to women that were previously restricted only to men. “If members of our military can meet the qualifications for a job — and let me be clear, we are not reducing qualifications — then they should have the right to serve,” said Panetta. As a former infantryman in the U.S. Marine Corps, I think it is a fantastic idea. If a woman wants to strap on 80 pounds of gear, carry a 20-pound weapon and patrol through a dangerous city in Iraq or Afghanistan then I’ll be in formation right next to her.
