California Props; Did we get them right?

November 22, 2016 by Erika Aguilar 2 Comments

By Erika Aguilar  |Staff Writer| After the election, twelve of the seventeen propositions were approved by voters; the other five that failed to do so will have an impact on Californians. Prop. 51 allows California to borrow $9 billion to improve overall education. "I think it's great because money has been taken away from school over the years and it's obvious it has had an affect on this generation," said student Breanne Downey. Prop. 52 guarantees funding for Medi-Cal to help low-income families. "It's great that this prop passed because it helps pay for health care services for children, low income families and seniors who pay for their medical expenses," said student … [Read more...] about California Props; Did we get them right?

November 14, 2016 by Israel Ramirez 5 Comments

By Israel Ramirez |Staff Writer| This years historic election is in the books. The election saw Trump defeat Clinton by a difference of 58 electoral votes leaving the four-decade New York politician with only 218 votes, and 276 in favor of the New York businessman, Donald Trump. “I feel betrayed by the nation. Over and over again we’re told that racism isn’t a thing anymore, that sexism was overcome years ago, and that we’re all equal. But, the results show the complete opposite, I feel that the nation embraced trumps bigotry and in return millions of people of color, women, and immigrants woke up in fear today,” said local resident Erika Anaya. In the past year this election … [Read more...] about America made their choice: Donald Trump wins the 2016 presidential election

Pick it, Tax it, Pack it

November 7, 2016 by Saeed Villanueva 8 Comments

By Saeed Villanueva |Staff Writer| Pot farmers are divided over the possible legalization of marijuana in California. On Nov. 8 people can vote for Proposition 64 which would legalize marijuana use in California and allow the state to give licenses to those who grow and sell cannabis. Prop. 64 would allow those who are at least 21 years old to possess, transfer, and sell up to an ounce of marijuana for recreational use and would allow Californians to grow up to six plants. However, the measure would enforce a 15 percent tax on the retail sales of the product which has led to indifferent feelings about the initiative from farmers in Northern California’s pot growing … [Read more...] about Pick it, Tax it, Pack it

The International Cannabis Business Conference held last Sunday and Monday was expected to draw about 1,000 investors, entrepreneurs and activists from California and elsewhere for an overview of the legalization landscape. Legalization support groups are now drafting a 2016 ballot in hopes to move California into legalizing along with Colorado and Washington. Completely legalizing marijuana becoming a possibility

March 7, 2014 by Archived posts 6 Comments

By Devin Ramos |Staff Writer| Gov. Jerry Brown should reconsider his stance on the recreational use of marijuana in California and watch how Colorado and Washington have adapted to the newly legalized drug. The Huffington Post has reported that Gov. Brown said legalizing the drug would not be a good idea. “A certain amount is okay, but there is a tendency to go to extremes,” said Brown. “The world is pretty dangerous and competitive, I think we need to stay alert.” While our state grants us the ability to get a medical marijuana card, Brown’s statements question if adults know how to limit themselves. Proposition 215 made medical marijuana legal with a doctor’s consent for … [Read more...] about Completely legalizing marijuana becoming a possibility

CA should legalize marijuana too

November 16, 2012 by Archived posts

By Stephanie Madrigal |Staff Writer| I think there are four reasons California should legalize recreational use of marijuana. First, over half of the people I met in high school and college have a medical marijuana card. I have asked them how they got it and it seems it is as easy as just saying you have insomnia. With so many people obtaining a medical marijuana card I believe California should make smoking weed legal. “Legalizing and regulating marijuana in California would benefit the state,” said a CSUSB student who asked to remain anonymous. Secondly, I think marijuana should be legalized because it will benefit the economy. Today, people pay for marijuana as well as food and … [Read more...] about CA should legalize marijuana too
