In recent events, University of Missouri (Mizzou) has shown to be a campus with a headstrong support system in order to bring an end to recent racism on campus. Pay tickets off a dollar a month
By Marco Montoya |Staff Writer| A traffic ticket amnesty program is now available and allows Californians to pay off certain traffic tickets by offering monthly payments. The amnesty program began on Oct. 1, 2015. According to the Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) website, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the Statewide Traffic Ticket/ Infractions Amnesty Program into law on June 24, 2015 and will allow California citizens to give payments on unpaid traffic tickets and possibly even reduce their debt by 50-80 percent. Proposal pushes to lower drinking age
By Marco Montoya |Staff Writer| The age for legal alcohol consumption in California might be lowered to 18 due to a new proposed ballot initiative. For the bill to be a part of the November 2016 ballot, the proponent Terrance Lynn must acquire 365,880 signatures by April 26, 2016, according to KTLA 5. Lynn argued that 18-year-olds have all the responsibilities and entitlements of adults so they should also be allowed to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. He also estimates that it could bring millions of dollars in taxes every year, according to KSBW. Cybersecurity bill passed

CISA was passed by the senate despite opposition from many big tech companies, privacy activists and even some lawmakers, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. This bill allegedly will make it easier for companies that feel victimized by high profile hacking to report the incident to the government and will protect them from lawsuits. Marijuana use doubles among Americans

According to a recent study, in the years 2012 and 2013 use of Marijuana doubled from the ten years prior. The number of adults who use Marijuana rose from 4.1 percent to 9.2 percent between the years 2001-02 to 2014, according to CNN. The study was conducted on interviews with over 36,000 American adults and was sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). This analysis appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Psychiatry. New privacy law for wireless protection

California is the third state in the nation behind Maine and Utah to authorize the act which enforces strict privacy policies on electronic devices. According to The Associated Press (AP), police will be required to get a court order to search computers or company phones, messages, emails or photos. Job creations fall short of economists’ expectations

According to CNBC, 203,000 jobs were expected to be created in September of this year, but a total of 143,000 were available by the end of the month. The participation rate in the work force dropped to 62.4 percent in September which had not been seen since 1977.
