By Erika Aguilar |Staff Writer| In light of recent police shootings, states across the country are pushing for the passing of the 'Blue Lives Matter' (BLM) bill. This bill will increase criminal penalties for crimes committed against officers to provide protection for law enforcement and prevent threats against them. Police believe they are being victimized by criminals and targeted as a hate group for the fact that they are the authority. Group seeks to withdraw investments from fossil fuels
By Aimee Villalpando |Staff Writer| Divest Harvard is one of over 400 campaigns at universities across the nation calling for endowments in fossil fuel companies to be terminated, according to divestharvard.com. Harvard currently has $34.6 million invested in the top 200 fossil fuel companies, which is the largest university endowment in the world. Endowments, as defined by the 2012 California State University’s (CSU) Philanthropic Report, are funds to be retained and invested for income-producing purposes. By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| Across the United States, protesters have been supporting open carry laws that protect people who walk around with unconcealed weapons. I am against the policies that the protesters are advocating because guns can lead to the deaths of innocent people. Currently, there are six states including California that completely ban people from visibly carrying weapons in public. Alternatively, there are twelve states that allow people to openly carry their weapons without a permit or license.
