SoCal bullet train

February 2, 2016 by Archived posts 13 Comments

By Jordan Mitchell | Staff Writers | State rail authority has reconsidered initial plans to begin construction of Southern California’s bullet train in Burbank and may start in the Bay Area.   A recent article published by the Los Angeles Times accused rail planners of underestimating project deadlines, as well as their $68.4 billion budget to build the bullet train.   “The very fact that they’re thinking of going 180 degrees from all of the planning they’ve been making so far, to me is an indication that the very issues that the Los Angeles Times brought up are the kinds of issues that I think they have to deal with,” said assembly member Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) in … [Read more...] about SoCal bullet train

Mayweather-Pacquiao: Reflecting on a historic fight

May 4, 2015 by Archived posts 238 Comments

By Daniel DeMarco |Copy Editor| It happened. Sports history took place on the night of May 2. It was a night hosting one of the biggest prizefights of all time—certainly the most financially successful prizefight ever seen. After some six years of speculation, uncertainty, and anticipation, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao stepped into the ring for 12 rounds of boxing. This was a major title-unification fight, yes, but more so, this was the fight to finally settle the question of who really is the pound-for-pound, number-one fighter in the world. Going in, Mayweather was almost universally regarded as number one and Pacquiao as number two. The intrigue arose … [Read more...] about Mayweather-Pacquiao: Reflecting on a historic fight

By Daniel DeMarco |Copy Editor| After almost six years, the boxing world has finally got its fight. Mayweather made the official announcement on Feb. 20 by posting a picture of the newly signed contract between the two fighters. May 10, 2013 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Imagine you’re promised a fairy tale; yet thrust into a nightmare. Alone, vulnerable and with no foundational support, Amy Andrews was looking to escape her current life and told the story of how it all went wrong at the Anti-Human Trafficking awareness event last Tuesday, May 7 in the Santos Manuel Student Union. She described her encounter with human trafficking by being taken at a party when she was 12 years old. Two men approached her and asked if she wanted to come with them to Los Angeles. Since she believed there was nothing keeping her in Palm Springs, she went after the life she was promised by the two men. “[It] starts off with a fantasy … [Read more...] about Anti-Human Trafficking comes to CSUSB

Halloween Weekend in Vegas

October 31, 2011 by Archived posts 6 Comments

By: Christopher Smith |Staff Writer| A weekend in Las Vegas can be an interesting experience, but a Halloween weekend in Vegas can be an even more so interesting one. Heading up there to celebrate a friend's birthday became an awesome time of partying, taking in the sights, poolside lounging, being chased by zombies, and attacked by strippers. Not even two minutes after walking into the hotel my friends told me two things: "drop your stuff," "Strip club," escorted in an all black SUV to the front of Sapphire Gentlemen's club the world's largest gentlemen's club. This was my first visit to a strip club and we received free drinks. Some things that happen in Vegas, must stay in … [Read more...] about Halloween Weekend in Vegas
