Talent recruiters discuss employment opportunities during COVID-19

October 27, 2020 by Eddie Lopez 746 Comments

The CSU Entertainment Alliance held a virtual event teaching students about how to get hired during this pandemic. Five speakers from the entertainment industry spoke during the event, discussing a variety of topics. When the topic of resumés and cover letters was brought up, Shari Holly, host of the seminar and Director of Operations for CSU, explained that jotting down all the jobs one has can potentially hurt the applicants chances. Holly said, “When you are putting down the list of jobs you had on your resumé, quality vs quantity can do more harm than good." Knowing how to put down certain important information on a resumé was also discussed during the seminar. Karla Merala, a … [Read more...] about Talent recruiters discuss employment opportunities during COVID-19

Summer Temperatures Affect Work Wardrobe Choices in Coachella Valley

April 30, 2017 by Crystal Harrell 7 Comments

By Crystal Harrell |Staff Writer from Palm Desert Campus| The Coachella concert season has ended, and with summer steadily approaching, it may be time to shift the focus away from finding festival fashion to selecting weather-friendly attire for the workplace. With temperatures known to reach upward of 110 degrees, the Coachella Valley is a literal hot spot compared to its surrounding counties. Residents often select light pieces of clothing that will better accommodate them during the stifling heat, but that is sometimes difficult to accomplish when it comes to work dress codes. Some prominent businesses in the desert community enforce dress codes for their employees that … [Read more...] about Summer Temperatures Affect Work Wardrobe Choices in Coachella Valley

Blue Lives Matter Law

November 14, 2016 by Erika Aguilar 5 Comments

By Erika Aguilar  |Staff Writer| In light of recent police shootings, states across the country are pushing for the passing of the 'Blue Lives Matter' (BLM) bill. This bill will increase criminal penalties for crimes committed against officers to provide protection for law enforcement and prevent threats against them. Police believe they are being victimized by criminals and targeted as a hate group for the fact that they are the authority. The bill could possibly make an effort to reduce that amount by providing protection to officers, especially In states and cities such as San Bernardino, which have a high rate of homicides. Police would have more protection in regards to … [Read more...] about Blue Lives Matter Law

CSUSB Addition: What Not to Wear

February 9, 2016 by Archived posts 24 Comments

By Jaynene Moreno | Staff Writer | Students are always making good and bad choices when dressing themselves in the morning, forgetting that fashion makes a statement. "When I'm in a rush in the morning I grab the quickest thing possible," said student Carmen Reyes, "although I'm comfortable, I know I don't look my best." Keeping the cold weather in mind is a must when choosing your outfit to start your day off right. "Everyone can wear whatever they want whenever they want, but it is irrational to wear short shorts during winter," said student Jessica Botello. A way to wear shorts in cold weather while avoiding freezing your butt off, is to style them with a cute pair of … [Read more...] about CSUSB Addition: What Not to Wear

Fairy tales come true in Washington

June 10, 2012 by Archived posts

By Diana Cansino |Coyote Contributor| I thought that I’d have everything together by now, at least the small stuff, like my life. But, alas I don’t. The year after graduation was one of the toughest thus far, and it hasn’t slowed down. This isn’t your Cinderella story. I didn’t get a glass slipper and I’m far from living in a mansion with Prince Charming. At any rate, I am on my way to fulfilling my dreams and each day I’m getting closer. I was a naïve graduate. I thought with a bachelor’s degree in communications how could I NOT find a job. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Two weeks after graduation and I still couldn’t find an internship, not even an unpaid one. I was confused; I … [Read more...] about Fairy tales come true in Washington
