Woman’s basketball starts off with a better chance

By Jasmine Gonzalez |Staff Writer| The Coyotes women's basketball team is off to a great start for the 2014-2015 season with two wins in this years Disney Tip-Off Classic. Last year, the season began with a four-game losing streak. The Coyotes played against The University of Mary Marauders Nov. 14 and Cal Baptist Lancers Nov. 18. The game was hosted by the Coyotes at the Coussoulis Arena and had 326 spectators in attendance. The Coyotes played strong defense, allowing the Marauders to score only 13 points, and forcing 16 turnovers. The Coyotes only allowed the Marauders to score 25 points off their 19 turnovers. Women’s soccer topping off the season

By Jasmine Gonzales |Staff Writer| "We are currently ranked number four in the west region so depending on how Sonoma and Chico do in the CCAA tournament will determine if we get a large berth for the NCAA." said Sierra Van Meter, a midfielder for CSUSB women's soccer team. The Coyotes tied with the Seawolves on Nov. 2, making them 2-2 in the first round of the CCAA tournament. The game was exciting going into double overtime and penalty kicks. The Seawolves eventually beat the Coyotes in penalty kicks, allowing them to move forward in the CCAA tournament. Player of the week: Arielle McCollough

By Jasmine Gonzales |Staff Writer| Arielle McCullough is going out with a bang this season, surpassing CSUSB Volleyball record for the most digs. Megan Haas set the record in 2006 with 1,566 digs, McCullough surpassed Haas with 1,572 digs after their game against Sonoma State University. McCullough ended the week with 1,587 digs and she still has seven more games to set the new Coyote record. “Holding the new record for the program is a huge accomplishment! The feeling is incredible and will be something I never forget,” said McCullough. Coyote smash competition

By Jasmine Gonzales |Staff Writer| Arielle McCullough is on the verge of setting a new Coyote volleyball record while contributing to the team's goal, winning another conference championship. McCullough, senior captain, has 43 digs to go before surpassing Megan Haas's all time record with 1,566 digs, set during the years of 2006 and 2008. McCullough is Libero, which is a specialized defensive position that plays in the back court; they play in all back rows for the middle front, but never rotate to the front row. Winning streak comes to an end

By Jasmine Gonzales |Staff Writer| Coyote Sophomore Goalkeeper Emily Whyte puts up a strong defense against opponents leaving them with a 15 percent chance to score. The average percentage of scoring on CSUSB's opposing goal keepers is about 28 percent, states the CSUSB Athletics web site. In the Coyote's past two games Whyte blocked a total of 12 goal attempts. On Oct 3, CSUSB women's soccer team was defeated by the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Tritons 2-0.  The Coyotes attempted five shots in the first half while Tritons women attempted four but by the end of the second half UCSD had out shot the Coyotes 11-9.
