International soccer players
By Gregory Gammill |Staff Writer| A diverse group of players from the men and women soccer teams all have different backgrounds, share similarities, differences and advice for future students. The difference in lifestyle has changed for some, coming from other countries. Players Luca Falcone and Megan Todd are both relatively new to the states. Falcone is a forward on the men's team and comes from Sydney, Australia. He came to the states in 2015 at the age of 21 to play soccer for the Coyotes. Falcone is graduating this December with a degree in psychology. He hopes to pursue a master's degree in sports psychology to do research in that particular field. According to the Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP) website, “CSUSB hosts almost 1,000 international students from over 53 different countries.” Why aren’t more CSUSB students visiting other countries? Montreal’s own studies at CSUSB
By Melissa Gilbert |Staff Writer| Each year, CSUSB welcomes approximately 800 international students from 40 different countries. I am one of them and my experience as an international student at CSUSB has been memorable. My plane was about to land. I grew increasingly nervous by the second. I couldn’t help but think, “What did I get myself into? Maybe I should have never signed up for a student exchange.” Those thoughts were rushing through my mind at first but they are now irrelevant. Coming to CSUSB was the best thing I could have done for myself. The reason why I chose to come to California was simple. I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and I was looking for a way to … [Read more...] about Montreal’s own studies at CSUSB

CSUSB sanitizes campus from cigarette butts
Angela Rodriguez |Staff Writer| According to Victorian Litter Action Alliance, an estimated 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are littered worldwide every year. Since our government legislation in the mid-2000s implemented smoking restrictions in public buildings and restaurants, the issue of cigarette butt litter has increased. CSUSB students can help reduce cigarette butts and other tobacco-related waste by joining TerraCycle Inc.’s Cigarette Waste Brigade, a free program dedicated to reducing litter. Upon participating in the program, for every pound of cigarette butts CSUSB collects, a dollar will be donated to Keep America Beautiful. According to a Cigarette Waste Brigade, … [Read more...] about CSUSB sanitizes campus from cigarette butts
A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life
By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| I feel that the most important part of transitioning as an exchange student is decorating your dorm. Living in the dorms for the first time, I've noticed that these rooms are so bare. I felt like the four white walls were talking to me. For my first week, I had absolutely nothing in my room; it was so painfully bare that I felt like it wasn't really mine. At first I started simple, putting color hooks on my walls, hanging stuff on it and then gradually adding posters and knick-knacks. I had a conversation with my roommates about decorating our rooms and making it feel more like home and we came to a conclusion that these walls were just … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life

French-Canadian students journey to the Golden State
By Marc-Olivier Drouin |Staff Writer| At the beginning of September, 15 French Canadians and myself packed our lives into suitcases, left the cold province of Quebec and took the road in direction of The Golden State for a semester abroad. I came here by car with two other friends, 3,813 miles, three time zones and 15 days stuck in a Volkswagen Golf – the road trip of a lifetime. A plane was not an option for us since we wanted to cross the United States in order to discover the country. It was one hell of an adventure where we were given the chance to discover the geographic diversity of the States. Our favorite parts of the road trip included Chicago, the Badlands National Park in … [Read more...] about French-Canadian students journey to the Golden State
