The excitement was palpable in the stands starting with the night's first artist, Sleepwalkers, a heavily '70s rock influenced indie band from Virginia. Sleepwalkers performed hits off their wildly raved about album, "Greenwood Shade," preparing the crowd and their musical souls for a night of meaningful lyrics and intricate musicianship. "When they performed, my mind was blown. I was so confused how I didn't know about these guys, but that's the great thing about opening acts, you discover so much and … [Read more...] about The Magic of Music – Concert Review

Coachella the best decision
By Itzayana Jimenez |Staff Writer| On May 16, 2014, I made one of the greatest decisions: I bought my Coachella weekend one ticket. Coachella is Southern California’s biggest annual music festival. It is a three-day festival located in the Mojave desert known for having a large variety of both mainstream and indie artists, hipsters with over-priced clothes, and an enormous amount of celebrity attendees. A few of the fashion trends at Coachella this year were floppy sun hats, bikini tops, cut-off shorts, and Bohemian dresses. Coachella 2015 was my first time attending the festival and it exceeded any of my expectations. To start off, as I was driving into the festival‘s … [Read more...] about Coachella the best decision
iPhone films Sundance movie
By Mintimer Avila |Online Editor| The Sundance film “Tangerine” has been drawing attention for its story and characters, but the biggest surprise comes from the camera that was used to film the movie, the iPhone 5s. Indie film director Sean Baker had the challenge of presenting a powerful story with a small budget. Baker ultimately decided that the iPhone would be a perfect fit due to its size and portability, according to yahoo.com. “Everyone out there has a mobile phone with a video camera and everyone is shooting videos of themselves every day. That allowed us to be inconspicuous and not intimidate first-time actors and people on the street and shoot clandestinely,” said … [Read more...] about iPhone films Sundance movie

Tegan & Sara shine through Sunset Boulevard
By Nadia Ahmad |Staff Writer| Sunset Boulevard was alive with the sound of music Nov. 18. I could see spotlights shining and music bumping from a mile away as I was driving to the Hollywood Palladium. The Palladium was packed with hundreds of loyal fans wearing Tegan & Sara shirts that looked like they may have been from previous shows. Waters, an indie-band from San Francisco, warmed up the crowd before Tegan & Sara took the stage. One of the fans in the crowd said, “Waters really impressed me because they had this sort of confidence that not a lot of opening bands have.” The group’s songs were extremely catchy, and I see myself listening to them in the near … [Read more...] about Tegan & Sara shine through Sunset Boulevard
